17-year-old Wisconsin high school quarterback Adam Massman tragically died after suffering an injury during his team’s season-opening football game.

Massman, a senior at Alma Center Lincoln High School, was injured during Thursday night’s game against Turtle Lake. EMTs treated him at the field before he was transported to a hospital, but his school announced Saturday that Adam had died from the injury. Officials have not publicly disclosed exactly what happened or the nature of the injury.

Adam played quarterback and defensive back and was a multi-sport athlete who also competed in basketball, baseball and track. His superintendent said he participated in numerous sports, clubs and activities and was someone who was “making friends everywhere he went.”

His family remembered him as “strong and spirited, yet quiet by nature,” and said playing sports with his friends was one of his favorite things in the world. He was preparing to begin his senior year and had already graduated from a college program through his high school during his junior year.

Adam’s family wrote that their home will never be the same, but that they will remain grateful for the “17 wonderful and perfect years” they had with him.

Rest in peace, Adam. Only 17 years old. 🙏

My oldest son plays 18U travel hockey and had a game last night in Blaine, Minnesota against a team from Colorado.

Game went to OT and his team scored to pull out the win.

After the game…kids from both teams skated to center ice and prayed together.

Pretty cool to see.

Back in my day (yes, I’m making myself sound old here) we probably would’ve been in the parking lot exchanging fists with the other team 😂

This generation is definitely different.
