Yesterday we had a great kick-off to the 24/25 academic year. Meaningful professional development took place ,including Tim Wise reminding us of the importance of our college continuing to address issues of equity, diversify, inclusion, belonging and anti-racism. @tacomacc
Earlier this week I concluded 4 days of learning and connection at AACC’s Presidents Academy Summer Institute. I learned a lot and was able to connect so many amazing colleagues. @tacomacc
@Iamkeithcurry@DrPamLuster@DrTammeil@CollegeFutures (3/3) I also have a supportive board that allows me time to disconnect. What I would recommend to others is to find what works for them, and to make sure they are finding meaningful time to disconnect, and to try Legos!
@Iamkeithcurry@DrPamLuster@DrTammeil@CollegeFutures (1/3) This is something that I continue to work on. One thing is I continually remind myself that creating meaningful change takes time. (These issues weren’t created overnight and won’t be fixed overnight.)
@DrTammeil@DrPamLuster@Iamkeithcurry@CollegeFutures (1/2) My dream is that we create higher education environments that truly provide the culture, instruction, and support structures that allow all students and employees the ability to be their authentic selves as they strive to complete their personal and career goals.
@DrPamLuster@DrTammeil@Iamkeithcurry@CollegeFutures (1/2) I can’t say there is a particular who that informs my practice. Me and the team are using learnings from books, research studies, conferences/convenings, as well as seeing what is working well for other higher education institutions.
@Iamkeithcurry@DrPamLuster@DrTammeil@CollegeFutures (1/2) We will continue our equity and belonging work on our road to becoming an anti-racist institution. Focus will be given to policies and practices, and important work to creating an environment that is conducive to supporting the success of all students, faculty and staff.
@DrTammeil@tacomacc@DrPamLuster@Iamkeithcurry@CollegeFutures (4/7) The source of funding is important. Because this program relied upon federal funding, through HUD housing vouchers, we were limited on how to use the funding and it required substantial bureaucracy that may not be needed if we were able to use college or private funding.
