After the discard, they are the most powerful they ever feel. Because they get to re-write the narrative exactly was they always wanted it to be.

The reason why narcissistic people are able to discard people is because it finally gives them relief.

The discarded person refuses to conform to their alternate realities.

They have a deep level of internalized shame, which makes them hypersensitive to every word you say.

That’s why they hear things that weren’t said, no matter how many times you say "that isn’t what I said."

That's their shame speaking. Their inner script.

They have an external locus of control. This means, it’s never their fault, or the issue never stemmed from them.

Everything that happens comes from something outside of themselves.

If you tell them they hurt you, or they've done something wrong they experience a collapse of Self. They get immediately defensive. They slam doors, hang up, or give the silent treatment to try to take back control of the narrative.

Their mental narratives are the only sense of identity they have, and when you shake those mental narratives, they’re going to have “big” reactions to try to take control back of the narrative.

Anything that conflicts with the reality in their own mind becomes a threat.

Anyone who points out flaws within themselves ultimately will become an enemy.

Narcissists typically had a very difficult, chaotic, smothering, or emotionally neglectful childhood where they had to create an imaginary world that made living feel safe.

They have an intense and vivid imagination where they create a different version of themselves.
