Can "perfect" math make a robot walk better?
You'd think forcing a humanoid to be perfectly symmetrical would give the best result. But our research on the Unitree H1 found a twist:
Symmetry-encoded AI = Faster early learning.
Standard reinforcement learning = Much smoother, "human-like" movement.
It turns out that biological "imperfection" is the key to true realism.

Standard microbiome tech can’t tell if detected bacteria are alive or growing. Our researchers patented a low-cost duplex amplicon-seq method that, from one sample, reveals who’s there and their growth rates with implications in infection diagnostics and bacterial surveillance.

You cannot test the correctness of AI using AI.
A simple line, but one that sparked several thoughtful conversations while hosting students from @iitbombay at our Tata Research Development and Design Centre (TRDDC) Pune.
The visit went beyond demonstrations, opening up rich conversations on agentic AI, statistical thinking, sustainability, mobility, and how applied research shows up in the real world. What stood out most was not just the technology, but the learning that emerged through dialogue, where human judgement, curiosity, and intelligent systems came together to unpack complex problems.
Engaging with such sharp, inquisitive young minds was energising and reaffirms why creating spaces for exposure, discussion, and shared learning with the next generation of innovators truly matters.

UWB tracking is prone to indoor errors.
Our researchers patented a novel method that smooths raw location data using a moving average and applies a multivariate model to calculate precise correction factors like bias and scale. This delivers high-accuracy location (X', Y') for critical asset and people tracking.

Urban logistics is going electric, but routing EV fleets is a nightmare because of charging delays, battery limits, and rising costs.
Our researchers have successfully developed a novel patented solution that flips the problem. One learning agent plans deliveries, 10-minute battery swaps, and sells energy back to the grid, turning bottlenecks into profit.

The future of art experiences is here.
What if your sketch could be the key to exploring a renowned artist’s masterpieces?
MUNCH museum and @TCS are transforming how Edvard Munch’s 7,000+ drawings are discovered and experienced through Project New Snow – an AI enabled experience.
This experience lets visitors create their own digital drawings and discover how AI connects them to Munch’s original works through motif, texture, shading, and more.
A new interactive exhibition - 'Edvard Munch: Connect the Lines', will be opening at MUNCH Museum, Oslo in June. MUNCH Museum and TCS invite visitors to explore Edvard Munch’s drawings in an innovative way and know more about his legacy.
Through this collaboration, thousands of fragile and previously unseen archive works from Munch’s collection have been made accessible to audiences worldwide.

We found that a 4 second hesitation at a kiosk isn’t just a “pause”, it’s a design failure. By turning those 4 seconds into data, we help brands fix friction before it becomes a complaint.
Design for reality, not assumptions.

User surveys have a secret: People often lie (unintentionally). In a busy airport, what you say you did vs what you actually did are two different things.
Our researchers developed an examiner to close this gap. Using AI-driven computer vision, we map real-time behaviour without ever interrupting the user.
