📊 The best trading system isn’t the one that changes its mind.

One rule I’ve kept in one of my EA is simple:

Crash trades long-only.
Boom trades short-only.

Not because I feel confident about the market today.

Because the documented behavior of these instruments supports that direction.

I’ve had opportunities to make the system more flexible.

For example, I built a feature that can block trades when the market moves strongly against the expected direction.

The tempting next step was:

“Why not just let the EA reverse and trade the opposite direction?”

I decided not to.🙅‍♂️

More flexibility doesn’t automatically mean a better system.

Sometimes adding another decision simply reintroduces the same instability you’re trying to remove.

That’s one thing I’m learning while building automated systems:

✅ A good system shouldn’t make decisions based on emotion, confidence, or what happened five minutes ago.

It should follow rules that have been tested and validated.

Consistency isn’t a limitation.

Almost every serious bug I’ve found came from verifying, not coding.

👉 Double-checking the actual input values before trusting a backtest.

👉 Comparing live performance against backtest expectations instead of assuming they matched.

👉 Reviewing raw log files instead of relying on screenshots that only showed part of the story.

None of these tasks are exciting.

They can even feel like slowing down.

But that doubt is the actual engineering discipline.

The code executes the strategy.

The verification process determines whether the strategy deserves to be executed in the first place.

☑️Trust your results enough to move forward.

☑️Question them enough to keep improving.
