Today, 29 May 2026, the Tbilisi Court of Appeals is scheduled to review TDI's appeal in the precedent-setting case of Margaret (Maggie) Osdoby Katz - a former U.S. Embassy and OSCE official denied entry to Georgia on 12 July 2025 - without an oral hearing.
The situation in Georgia, including for journalists, Georgian and foreign alike, continues to deteriorate.

Special forces officers removed detainees' shoes, leaving many barefoot when taken to medical facilities. They also confiscated detainees' mobile phones, demanding they unlock them

Legal Aid Network: most detainees from December 2 are severely beaten. Some are currently hospitalized with visible bruising and facial injuries. All hospitalized have concussions, multiple contusions, and difficulties with movement and speech. #GeorgiaProtests
After continuous beating, one victim's raincoat was filled with blood. Upon exiting the minivan, detainees were forced through a corridor of special forces officers who kicked them in the face and back before reaching the patrol car.
NGO legal aid network: On Nov. 28 – Dec 1 – the hotline received information about the detention of over 200 individuals. Among them - minors, women, journalists, cultural sector, NGO members and lawyers. The number is increasing today.

Court proceedings violate fair trial standards: hearings are held late at night without reasonable time. Harsh sanctions, including administrative detention, are imposed. Requests to postpone for case review are often denied.#GeorgiaProtests
NGO legal aid network: Almost all detainees report brutal treatment, punitive persecution, and violence by police forces. Some still undergo treatment in medical facilities. Sometimes, law enforcement officials refuse to transfer them to medical facilities.
