We're the Toronto District School Board Mathematics & Numeracy Department, serving K-12 educators, students, families, and communities across @TDSB. We sudoku.
Our math challenge today was “can you draw this image?” Ss were shown an image for 2 secs then had 30 secs to draw it from memory. It created great #mathtalk about geometry and positional language. Thank you @robertsonprog! @TDSBmath@davisville_jps
Learning about democracy with donuts: Comparing "How we voted" with "What we got" using First-Past-The-Post in the 2022 Provincial Election. @FairVoteCanada@TDSBmath@tdsb_Carleton@meslin
Grade 1s & 2s @TPPS_TDSB are playing different games “to make 10” and Ss are using rekenreks or ten sticks to support them in play!!!! @TDSBmath@npersaudLC4@ldilworth1
Cold day = less kids at school… but MORE time for 1on1 support. Today a gr 3 student who was only subitizing was able to learn & demonstrate counting on & counting on from the larger #, through game play! So excited by this movement in skills! @TDSBmath@npersaudLC4@ldilworth1
We loved playing Race to the Flat! Ss take turns rolling the die, filling their flat (hundreds block) with units, and trading the ones for tens rods to cover the 100 block. First to fill the flat wins! Thank you for the suggestion @FOS6Alvarez@davisville_jps@TDSBmath
First day of doubles & double double games for a grade 3 class @TDSB_GW . Hearing some great math talk with their partners: “3! Double 3 is 6.” “5. Two 5s is 10, and then two 10s is 20!” @TDSBmath@lcgk93
Ms Andrews’ Gr 4 Ss took the Math Monday Challenge vertical a la Peter Liljedahl!! They represented their mathematical thinking using pictorial representation & number knowledge that included factorials! @TDSBmath @FOS6Alvarez
Starting the implementation of Lawson math groups today in grade 3 classes @TPPS_TDSB . Ss were so excited to play the differentiated games and practice their counting - addition skills. First day was a success! @TDSBmath@ldilworth1
Math is everywhere @TDSB_GW ! New doubling math games already being played (differentiated) and math lesson samples displayed for others in the hallway! @TDSBmath@ldilworth1
Gr 1/2 students @TDSB_GW are completing math interviews to help dig down on counting vs addition strategies. Co-teaching morning trying out groups of to arrays to the beginnings of area models with jr esl class. @TDSBmath
A math-filled week: starting with a co-taught lesson to my former Ss, now in Gr. 6 @oakdale_park & continuing with great problem solving, deciphering pattern rules & playing Salute! Students’ engagement & enthusiasm: simply impressive! @TDSBmath@mervisalo@LizBHolder@ldilworth1
Fabulous last day of early years Lawson PD at Thorncliffe with teachers from the DV cluster! Lots of talk about number bonds, problem types, the multiplication continuum and playing some of the Lawson math games. 😀 I loved ❤️all of your enthusiasm today! @TDSBmath@TPPS_TDSB
Teachers @TDSB_GW are digging deeper into their implementation of Lawson PD learnings - everyday living activities, games and number talks! @TDSBmath@ldilworth1
Participants from the DV cluster on fractions are working through connecting representations of fraction operations. Strong use of thin sliced tasks and connecting number lines, area models to algorithms. @TDSBmath@ldilworth1@kiran_pain
To share our learning with the school, we made bar graphs about clean water access. Each group had a different data set including drinking advisories added/lifted and drinking advisories by province. They also found the mean and mode of the data @TDSBmath@davisville_jps
