UPDATE ON APPA: K9 Appa is on the road to recovery after being shot during that armed standoff on August 4. The dog took rounds from the suspect who had pointed a gun at a deputy and fled after contacting kids in the area. Deputies finished the threat. Appa went into surgery fighting for his life.

Now the update. He had two surgeries. His prognosis is good. He’s been released from the vet and is home recovering with his handler and family. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office says they’re encouraged by his progress and remain hopeful.

There’s even video of him walking around and crushing his breakfast. They say he’s got a long road still, but they’re optimistic he’ll get back out there catching bad guys and finding dope.

That’s the toughness these K9s bring. Appa did his job under fire and now he’s fighting through the recovery. Great job, Appa. Keep healing strong.

🤔Every New President Says the Same Thing

Something is happening, and it's happening everywhere at once.

On August 7, 2026, Abelardo De La Espriella was inaugurated as the President of Colombia in Cali. His maiden speech led with two things: a robust fight against organized crime, and fiscal austerity. Not education. Not the economy in the abstract. Crime enforcement and fiscal discipline. First words from the podium.

The same week, Chilean President José Antonio Kast unveiled a tougher organized crime agenda. Bloomberg ran the headline. Different country, different political tradition, same opening move.

Meanwhile, in Haiti a country the world had largely written off as a failed state the National Police established a permanent base at the Varreux fuel terminal in Cité Soleil. If you don't know why that matters: Varreux is the port where armed gangs controlled the country's fuel supply in 2022 and 2023. They held the entire Haitian economy hostage by holding that terminal. Now the PNH has armored vehicles parked there and isn't leaving. That's not a raid. That's a flag planted.

And on August 4, police from five Amazon countries Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia ran one of the largest coordinated environmental crime crackdowns ever carried out in the world's largest rainforest. Hundreds arrested. Timber, minerals, and livestock seized. Five governments. One simultaneous operation. No announcement from Washington.

Now zoom out.

In the same week:

The United States unsealed five indictments against senior CJNG cartel leaders, posted $102 million in rewards, and formally designated El Pelón as the DEA's number one priority. FinCEN hit UBS with the largest broker-dealer anti-money-laundering penalty in history $125 million.

The United Kingdom sanctioned six Russian banks, six shadow fleet oil tankers, and an India-based ship management company that was facilitating Russian sanctions evasion.

The European Union designated 216 Belarusian entities in its largest sanctions round since the invasion of Ukraine. It also sanctioned a Southeast Asian scam compound network that the U.S. had targeted four months earlier the EU applying its own authority to the same target, independently.

Spain and France ran a joint operation that dismantled a CJNG methamphetamine cell in Catalonia and destroyed a clandestine lab. A Mexican cartel was manufacturing drugs in Europe, and European law enforcement took it down.

Ukraine's President Zelenskyy issued a formal diplomatic directive ordering every Ukrainian ambassador worldwide to make sanctions intensification their top priority. Ukraine then sanctioned 23 companies and 20 individuals tied to Russia's defense-industrial complex under its own authority.

India's Enforcement Directorate was formally designated as the country's lead agency for seized cryptocurrency. The ED director declared a new enforcement doctrine. Separately, India's Criminal Investigation Department with analytical support from Binance busted a crypto-hawala network and confirmed direct financial links to Hamas and Houthi organizations.

Saudi Arabia's anti-corruption body Nazaha continued its monthly sweep cycle 160 arrested in the latest round while the King reshuffled his cabinet.

China's anti-corruption apparatus opened a probe into the former president of China Development Bank, investigated another securities regulator, and passed 10 ministerial-level officials purged in 2026 alone ahead of the 2027 Party Congress.

Russia's domestic seizure campaign hit 123 cases in the first half of 2026 a record pace while another billionaire was arrested and the official overseeing the seizure program was removed.

Israel's Mossad director removed two senior officials over a failed operation. An Israeli couple was indicted for spying for Iran in exchange for cryptocurrency they had filmed areas near Dimona.

The Philippines is cooperating with a U.S. extradition request for a megachurch founder indicted on sex trafficking and cash smuggling charges.

Count the flags.

United States. China. Russia. Saudi Arabia. India. Brazil. United Kingdom. The European Union. Ukraine. Colombia. Chile. Haiti. Spain. France. Israel. The Philippines. Peru. Ecuador. Bolivia.

That's not a coalition. Nobody signed a treaty. There's no joint communiqué. These governments span the political spectrum from right-wing populists to post-conflict transitional authorities to authoritarian states running internal purges. They don't agree on trade, or immigration, or the war in Ukraine, or almost anything else.

But they're all doing the same thing.

New presidents are taking office and leading with organized crime enforcement. Failed states are planting flags in territory the gangs used to own. Five countries that share a rainforest are running simultaneous cross-border operations. Intelligence agencies are purging their own senior ranks. Financial regulators are posting record penalties. Anti-corruption bodies are running monthly sweep cycles. And enforcement agencies are being formally designated as lead authorities over cryptocurrency the tool that was supposed to be beyond any government's reach.

This isn't coordination in the way people usually mean it. Nobody is on the phone calling these shots. What's happening is that the structural incentives all point in the same direction: international financial compliance pressure, secondary sanctions exposure, domestic demand for anti-corruption, and the basic fact that transnational criminal networks don't respect borders, so enforcement against them can't stay inside any one country's lines.

The question isn't why any single government is doing this. Each one has its own domestic reasons. The question is why they're all doing it at the same time.

The receipts are sourced to the Department of Justice, the Department of the Treasury, the UK Foreign Office, the European Union Official Journal, Reuters, Bloomberg, the Associated Press, the Jerusalem Post, India's Enforcement Directorate, China's CCDI, Nazaha, and the Moscow Times.

Operators returning to old ‘dry’ oil wells often find the black gold has returned—like magic.

The explanation is that drilling recovers only about 30–40% of the oil that is actually there. That means 60% to 70% of the oil is being left behind in the rocks.

This residual oil was already there, and some of it is later recovered through workovers, re-perforation, pressure support, steam, CO₂ or chemical injection. Higher prices or improved technology often make low-rate production economic again.

So how big are the world’s known and unknown oil reserves? Are they vastly larger than the official figures shown below?

* Proven oil reserves of about 1.65–1.7 trillion barrels — enough for roughly 50 years at today’s consumption.
* Proven coal reserves are approximately 1.06 trillion tonnes — enough for roughly 130 years.
* Proven natural gas reserves of around 7,300 trillion cubic feet — enough for well over a century in many estimates.

What does this mean for the costly global transition to wind and solar energy? The $275 trillion figure comes from a McKinsey estimate of cumulative spending on physical assets for a net-zero pathway (roughly 2021–2050).

The mystery in all this isn’t just about ‘endless oil’ or even its imminent exhaustion.

It’s that we don’t know.
