This new publication concludes a first chapter in our study of the causes and consequences of granivory in ants and myrmecophilous silverfish. We combine stable isotope profiling, feeding assays, phylogeny, and microbiome analyses of a broad insect panel https://t.co/y9P2UngfHj
Proud to present: 🐟 Chapter 3 of my #PhD --> now available in Science of the Total Environment. Read about how #eDNA metabarcoding can be used to monitor fish communities in the Scheldt estuary! ⚓️

Dr Nicky Wybouw @NWybouw will be joining #PEC2024 as our plenary speaker!
His lab studies questions in the broader fields of speciation, herbivory, and symbiosis. Within these fields, dr Wybouw studies the molecular-genetic basis of key complex traits such as hybrid dysfunction
We are pleased to show our freshly published review article in the polyploidy special issue of @Oikos_Journal . We review polyploid establishment and show how coexistence theory can help to undertstand it. https://t.co/X4cNY5v5I3
@Marinasentis shows that biophysical models can accurately predict the energy expenditure of small passerine birds, especially if avian thermoregulatory behavior such as feather fluffing is accounted for. https://t.co/EknpnMHHXm first PhD chapter! @CesarePacioni @TEREC_ugent
Out now @HeredityJournal - our study of the underlying mechanisms and relevance of Wolbachia-induced sex allocation distortion (Sd) in haplodiploids!
Sd is an often neglected symbiont-mediated reproductive phenotype in haplodiploids and is expressed when females are infected.
Proud to be part of this body of work that was spearheaded by Silke and Yu-Hsien. We identified and characterized an enzyme of an insect herbivore that modulates the green leaf volatiles of its host plant but also plays a key role in its development. https://t.co/BNfzufw65i
The first paper of my PhD is now published! We examined how forest structural complexity affects birds nutritional status, inferred from their feather growth rate, and showed a postitive impact.

Another successful field biology course for 3d y bachelors completed! Students participated in experimental design, performed their field work independently, and made a video report of their results and conclusions. We also reached our target of identifying 500 species in 5 days!
@BisschopKaren@NWybouw @BonteDries @ellendecaesteck
You can swim, but you can't hide!

Tonight, I will tell you all about how #eDNA can be used to detect riverine fish @pintofscienceBE
See you there! 🍻
Thank you @ASNAmNat for this honour, I am really greatful for this recognition! And also thanks to my coauthors @AAlzateVallejo @BonteDries @rampaletienne
