Putting the UX in REDUX...
SolarLightHUD REDUX is done after many years of on-and-off tweaking! You can download it now. I also put a longer version of this showcase on the YouTube channel. Have fun!

@spuppet01 Also, deploying and staying airborne means you can delay your initial shot before revealing your presence. Giving you... more time to reload.
@spuppet01@RafisCornerSFM@Icepupsicle@Stefantivus I don't understand what you're saying. Reducing the number of rockets fired into walls and floors means you can instead place those rockets into enemies. That is what I mean by high rocket launcher uptime. You're not wasting time doing other things like reloading.
Like, I understand that you're very attached to the idea of this item being bad, and seemingly don't want to change your opinion, but you have to take the L on this point here. It objectively reduces the number of rockets fired to perform long jumps.
@spuppet01@RafisCornerSFM@Icepupsicle@Stefantivus Bombs with the Black Box are better with parachute. Base boosted jumps provide 1.5x speed, but only cost 1 rocket, reducing the clip to 2. An equivalent Gunboats bomb costs 2 rockets, reducing the clip to 1.
Even regular parachuted jumps cover more distance than normal jumps.
@spuppet01@RafisCornerSFM@Icepupsicle@Stefantivus A better term might be "high active rocket launcher usage time" because the shotgun discourages using rockets. Shotgun also has an opportunity cost because you're losing the mobility of gunboats and parachute
@TheVeryAnster overall I don't find hitscan to be the kryptonite people think it is. heavy and engi are too slow to really chase you down, so it's really just scout and to a lesser extent sniper. the other classes are either neutral matchups or are an advantage to the parachute user
@TheVeryAnster funnily enough I found that the classic in particular was harder to fight against because it is the only rifle that allows snipers to check the skies for parachuters without losing their rifle charge constantly
@RafisCornerSFM I'm still on the fence about it tbh. I'm glad you're not arguing for a speed cap buff, but I still think complaining about not taking 30 fall damage is a relatively minor thing. If this is all that was bothering you, there's no reason why you couldn't be using the item right now.
@RafisCornerSFM@Icepupsicle@Stefantivus Not the worst idea, but this mostly mitigates normal deployments after a baseboost. Speed caps don't apply while ascending.
It wouldn't affect setups where a player baseboosts into a wall to do another baseboost and just save the chute for avoiding fall damage when they land.
@RafisCornerSFM Shotguns and banners will have you waddling on the floor at a speed that is slower than the parachute. THAT is limiting.
Being able to float around feels limitless. Gunboats obviously has it beat for traversing long distances, but the parachute is a positioning item.
@RafisCornerSFM@Icepupsicle@Stefantivus I'm really not sure how you'd go about nerfing base boosting without utterly ruining a fun mechanic, which is ironically what you were complaining about in the first place. I don't think redeploy spam is anywhere near as fun or rewarding as learning this tech. I'd be pretty sad.
@RafisCornerSFM@Icepupsicle@Stefantivus I mean, the fact that you don't use base is surely contributing to your perception, no? I don't find it situational at all.
I used to think this (see caber video), but now I think it's perfectly fine aside from... You know, Junction.
I gave it a chance and my opinion changed.
@RafisCornerSFM@Icepupsicle@Stefantivus I mean, yeah. You bomb someone while at 100 HP and it goes to 60 instead of 82, or whatever. But then if you dodge a 100 damage pipe by air strafing with the parachute, or avoid a 70 damage splash rocket by floating above its landing spot, then that's worth it.
@RafisCornerSFM@Icepupsicle@Stefantivus The actual nerf that might have some effect for casual play is the speed cap nerf from Scout Speed to engi speed, but relatively bad players would frequently fail to take use of this since they don't air strafe to gain speed beyond the "noob cap" of 75hu/s
@RafisCornerSFM@Icepupsicle@Stefantivus I'm also really not sure what significance having extra redeploys has, when most jumps aren't even that high. I played on Shounic's server where he had reverted it and we both agreed that the difference it made was small when used as intended. For base boosting, it is busted.
