Appreciate Gov. @GregAbbott_TX’s strong leadership in mobilizing Texas’ response to NWS, and thank @SecRollins for her continued leadership @USDA.
The urgency and coordination at both the state & federal levels is critical to protecting Texas livestock.
Today, TFB District 10 State Director Stephen Bauer met with @GregAbbott_TX and @USDA Admiral Schmoyer to discuss the New World screwworm detection in Texas.
Stopping the spread and eradicating this pest as quickly as possible will take a coordinated effort, and we appreciate the urgency Gov. Abbott and other state and federal officials are bringing to the issue.
Following the meeting, Gov. Abbott issued an updated statewide disaster declaration for the New World screwworm infestation.

Gov. @GregAbbott_TX issued a disaster declaration last week as New World screwworm infestations in Mexico move closer to the Texas border, posing a significant threat to Texas agriculture and wildlife.
The declaration allows state agencies to mobilize additional resources and take preemptive action to prevent the pest from spreading into Texas.
He made the announcement on a Texas Farm Bureau member's ranch in the Valley. Several Texas Farm Bureau leaders, members, and staff were in attendance for the announcement.

Governor @GregAbbott_TX was endorsed by the Texas Farm Bureau as well as other crucial farming, ranching, and irrigation groups.
Together, we can keep Texas as the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
Had a great visit yesterday with the Wood County Farm Bureau. Agriculture is the backbone of our local economy, and the men and women who work our land continue to embody the values that make East Texas strong.
We discussed the challenges facing our producers and the work ahead to ensure future generations can continue to farm and ranch right here at home.
Grateful for their insight, hard work, and commitment to feeding and fueling Texas. I’ll continue fighting for our rural communities in Austin.
This weekend, I, and 93 other members of the house, sent a letter to the Governor requesting that screwworm prevention be added to the special session call. Protecting Texas livestock and rural communities must remain a priority, and continued action is critical to safeguard our state’s agricultural future. #txlege
Big news today! USDA announced plans to advance a sterile insect facility right here in Texas at Moore Air Base in Hidalgo County.
It's part of USDA's five-pronged plan to stop the deadly parasite.
The facility will produce and distribute sterile flies to help combat the New World screwworm, a pest that threatens livestock and wildlife. This method worked to eradicate the screwworm in the U.S. back in the 1960s, and it’s still a strong line of defense today.
This domestic readiness and response effort from the Trump administration is a major step in strengthening our ability to stop this pest before it spreads.

The Mexican government agreed to immediately transfer Rio Grande water from international reservoirs to the U.S., following years of delayed water deliveries under the 1944 Water Treaty.
Mexico also agreed to increase the U.S. share of the flow in six of Mexico’s Rio Grande tributaries through the end of the current five-year water cycle, according to USDA.
For South Texas agriculture, the short-term water relief is a crucial first step.
