Somaliland Y-PEER, with support from Options Consultancy, trained community champions in Erigavo to help end FGM/C. The two-day workshop equipped local leaders, including elders, health workers, and women groups, with knowledge about the health risks of FGM/C, legal protections, and effective advocacy strategies.
Participants learned how to address harmful norms using culturally sensitive approaches, including faith-based perspectives. This initiative strengthens Somaliland’s movement to protect girls’ health and rights by empowering trusted community voices.

Somaliland Y-PEER hosted a successful advocacy and sensitization meeting in Erigavo, bringing together 30 key community members. The participants included religious leaders, traditional elders, women, youth, and other local stakeholders who play influential roles within their communities.
The primary aim of the meeting was to raise awareness about the harmful effects of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and to encourage collective action toward its elimination. By creating a space for dialogue, the meeting sought to mobilize community support for ending the practice.
