That's a wrap on Tencent Games Central Tech at #gamescomdev and #gamescom 2026. 🎮
Over five days in Cologne, we shared our latest work, exchanged ideas with developers, and had plenty of conversations about where game technology is heading next.
One thing came through clearly: technology creates the most value when it can fit into real development workflows, adapt to different needs, and scale in production.
Thanks to everyone who visited, joined our sessions, shared feedback, or stopped by for a conversation.
The show may be over, but the work continues — building technologies for better games and better player experiences.

🔍 How can game testing become more adaptive as games themselves become more complex?
At gamescom dev, Vincent Gao and Easons Ye shared Tencent Games' exploration of scalable autonomous testing with AI Agents in:
"From Scripts to AI Agents: Scalable Autonomous Testing for Complex Games"
Highlights from the session:
🔹 Goal-Driven Testing: Moving beyond fixed scripts by enabling AI Agents to work toward testing objectives in dynamic game environments.
🔹 Multi-Agent Collaboration: Using structured game knowledge to coordinate multiple Agents across complex tasks and scenarios.
🔹 Vision-Based Testing: A "Brain–Cerebellum" architecture combines high-level visual understanding and task decomposition with fine-grained execution for black-box testing.
🔹 Human + AI: AI Agents are designed to augment professional QA teams, while human oversight remains essential for complex and sensitive scenarios.
The shift is not simply about automating more tests. It is about making testing systems more adaptive to the growing complexity of modern games.

At gamescom dev, Zhenyuan Zhang, Senior Research and Development Engineer of Tencent Games, shared @magic_dawn_ 's approach to high-performance Global Illumination in:
"Lighting Up Roco Kingdom: Best Practices for High-Performance Global Illumination"
Using Roco Kingdom as the case study, the session explored how to deliver high-quality lighting across a 64 km² cross-platform open world while balancing visual quality, performance, memory, storage, and production efficiency.
The talk focused on three major challenges: long baking times, the storage and memory pressure created by dynamic time-of-day systems, and maintaining consistent visual quality across platforms. To address these, MagicDawn combined high-performance Global Illumination with cross-platform adaptation technologies, significantly improving baking efficiency while using CLV technology to keep memory usage under control.
The result is a lighting solution designed to scale across large open-world environments while supporting smooth, high-frame-rate visuals on mobile devices.
More broadly, the session showed how high-quality Global Illumination can become practical for real production — not only visually, but also in terms of efficiency, scalability, and cross-platform deployment.

At gamescom dev, Zijiao Zeng, Head of Motus AI Team, Tencent Games, shared the latest advances behind Motus AI in "Breathing Life into Geometry 2.0: Advancing the Unified AI Pipeline for 3D Character Animation".
The session explored how foundation models are being applied across key stages of the 3D character animation pipeline:
▪️Auto-Rigging: Motus AI automatically generates skeletons for a wide range of character assets, including complex structures such as hair and skirts, with support for reference-based adaptation and auxiliary bones.
▪️Auto-Skinning: AI-generated skinning weights and post-processing help automate traditionally labor-intensive character setup, reducing complex garment workflows from days to hours.
▪️Multimodal Motion Generation: a unified model supports animation generation from text, video, and keyframes, while motion in-betweening helps connect AI-generated results with artists' existing editing workflows.
A key focus throughout the session was production usability, not simply whether AI can generate animation, but whether the results can meet the quality, controllability, and workflow requirements of real game development.
For Motus AI, the goal is to make AI a deeper part of character animation production — so technology enables creative expression rather than becoming its bottleneck.

Understanding the battlefield is only half the challenge. An AI agent also has to decide what to do — and act in time.
At #gamescomdev, Jingwen Yang, Head of GIGA Team, Tencent Games, shared GIGA's latest work on autonomous FPS agents in: "Building Autonomous AI Agents for FPS Battlefields — From High-Level Reasoning to Real-Time Execution"
At the core is a Dual-System Architecture:
🔹 Cognitive Reasoning: a vision-language model interprets battlefield information, understands player instructions, and turns high-level intent into plans.
🔹 Fast Execution: reinforcement-learning-based skills handle precise control under millisecond-level constraints and feed results back into the reasoning system.
This allows agents to do more than simply follow commands. They can evaluate the situation, adjust priorities, and act more like a teammate than a tool.
The broader goal is to keep advancing general decision-making, language-action alignment, collaboration, and continual learning through complex game environments.

A new collaboration built on years of game security experience.
Great to see ACE, Tencent Cloud, and Sandbox Interactive working together to support a safer, more secure game environment. 👇
ACE, Tencent Cloud, and Sandbox Interactive have formalized a new partnership at gamescom 2026.
Under the agreement, Albion Online will integrate ACE Anti-Cheat Standard for Android, strengthening protection through server-side detection and closer client-server validation.
The collaboration follows more than a year of technical evaluation, testing, and integration work. The updated version featuring the new anti-cheat integration is scheduled to launch in September 2026.
For a long-running MMORPG built around competitive fairness and a player-driven economy, stronger mobile protection can help safeguard both gameplay integrity and the broader in-game ecosystem.
The partnership also reflects a broader shift in game security: from isolated client-side defenses toward more coordinated protection across the game environment.
