I've been a Mets fan since day one in 1962. And what David Stearns has done to my team is baseball malpractice.
Few issues:
--If Stearns ran one of Steve Cohen's hedge funds into the ground as he's done with the Mets, is there any chance he would still be employed? He symbolizes everything wrong with baseball as analytics have ruined the game.
--Stearns didn't want to give Pete Alonso a five-year contract ostensibly because he feared the last two years would be wasting Cohen's money. Funny then that halfway through his own five-year $50 million contract that Stearns has never at any point lived up to his deal.
--The downfall of the Mets has been pitching but Stearns elected to rip the heart out of this team (Alonso, Nimmo) while the pitching staff got worse with Stearns playing the analytics game.
--Run prevention was Stearns theme of the offseason. How has that worked out? Six infield errors the other night. Bringing in Bichette and Polanco (he's missed most of the year) and playing them out of position. That's his idea of run prevention?
--Signing players with injury histories (Polanco, Robert) and expecting that to change. Both missed almost the entire first half of this mess.
--I'm sure I could have done a better job than Stearns to this point. I know I couldn't have done worse.
LGM!
@nypostsports@Joelsherman1@JonHeyman Is he serious bringing up 2024 and that Stearns should get credit? None of the key contributors to that team’s success were Stearns’ guys. He SHOULDN’T get credit for it. He fell into that team. He should thank Billy Eppler and previous regimes for 2024.
@StevenACohen2@OnlyMetsFans@The7Line@01Starblazer With all due respect Steve, if you want to keep us fans around, you’ll get rid of David Stearns. I mean it’s not like he hasn’t set this franchise back years by bungling EVERY single move he made. That’s not a narrative, that’s fact!
@BlueshirtsBreak Greg, the best thing for this team is to lose as many games possible, and in the most embarrassing way possible. We need changes to the top, and I fear Cohen won’t make those changes unless we completely bottom out.
@The7Line Best thing for this franchise is to lose as many games as possible. This front office needs to be changed because they’re incapable of building a winning team with the mentality that the boy genius has. Finishing 5 games under 500 is like a football team going 8-9, pointless!
@StevenACohen2 Call @Orioles and see what they want for Pete. Nobody should be off the table. @Mets aren’t going to compete for years thanks to Stearns, at least give us Pete back!
@HowieRose Well said Howie. Mendoza isn’t the one who let Pete walk out the door and replace him with an oft injured player. He isn’t the one who traded Nimmo for a player whose best days are long behind him. This is all on Stearns!
@SNY_Mets@WillSammon That’ll save us. For the first time in my life I’m rooting for this team to lose every game. The entire organization needs to be switched up starting with the idiot POBO!
@StevenACohen2 Very quiet since this post! If you gave a damn about the fans, the fans who keep you in business, then you’d fire Stearns TODAY and issue an apology to the Mets fans!
@StevenACohen2 Nice job hiring Stearns and allowing him to destroy this franchise! Pitching was a calamity last year, so let the best offensive player we’ve ever had walk out the door, and replace him with essentially nothing!
@craigcartonlive@CMacWFAN While you’re sadly probably right that Stearns is safe for now, allowing him to make moves at the deadline is the worst thing Cohen could do. He should be fired now so he doesn’t make things worse. If they’re going to sell, let a new guy do it!
@SteveGelbs It’s so insane that Stearns gutted the heart of the offense and did nothing with the pitching aside from Peralta, who has been very disappointing
@7BOOMERESIASON Boomer I read that the Brunson tweet from 6/13/15 was actually in reference to the Blackhawks. He’s apparently a big Blackhawk fan and that was when they were up 3-2 on the Lightning! @GioWFAN
