JTBC did a feature on Taehyung’s Birthday cafès that has popped up all over Korea, with over 30 locations in Seoul alone! Fans fly from all over the world to visit these cafès and even go on cafè tours.

“{Hello.} I’m Mayumi.”

Mayumi came to Korea to celebrate the birthday of her favorite BTS member, V.

Q: Taehyung (V) is in the military, isn’t he?
Ans: Yes, I’m sad. But I still want to celebrate his birthday up close with Taehyung.

Mayumi's full-scale birthday celebration journey begins at a birthday cafe.

This place is usually open as a regular cafe, but has now been transformed into V's 'Birthday Cafe'. There is a large banner and a sign celebrating V's birthday, and there is even a teddy bear, a character symbolizing V, installed on the left.

Let’s start from the order inside first.
Mayumi: This is the product that comes with dessert.

The birthday cafe has special menus related to the birthday person. They are selling macaroons and cookies featuring the bear character that symbolizes V. When you purchase a drink, you will receive a specially designed band, cup holder, photo card, and poster.

Fans are trying their best to capture pictures of V in the cafe through photos and videos.

Mayumi: I’m happy to see Taehyung (V) on his birthday.

BTS V's birthday cafe was held in about 50 locations across the country. There are over 30 locations in Seoul alone. Even though this started out as a K-pop culture in Korea , but has now spread overseas.

Malay fans: We came today on purpose. It’s because today is V’s birthday.

Chinese fans: We came here on a trip, and the most important part of our schedule was visiting Taehyung (V)’s birthday cafe. It’s really great. {Perfect!}”

The number of fans doing the so-called ‘birthday cafe tour’ has also increased.

Indian fans: So we have plans to stop by 4-5 birthday cafes. We are spending the whole day for V's birthday. {I'm going today, and I'm going tomorrow too.}

Reporter went to other cafes with Mayumi.

The table is full of dolls, posters, and photo cards. There were photos of Taehyung put on display to take a photos with and to commemorate visits to the cafe.

Korean fan: I stopped at several places in Yongsan, took pictures there, and collected goods. Today, I went out to Hongdae and took pictures of what I received at the cafe and kept them.

Mayumi: It's nice to be able to enjoy the pictures taken by many fans at various cafes. Every year on December 30th , various photos are taken for V (Taehyung). Spending time at a cafe is my happiness.

Birthday Cafe Owner: V’s Birthday Cafe event has 500 to 700 people visit per day.

Because of this, some people buy (airplane) tickets and come here, so I think it will be a great help in attracting foreign fans and foreign currency.

Birthday cafes are usually hosted by ordinary fans.

Even if they do it in a place where rental fees is free, that doesn’t mean there are no hosting costs.

However, fans say that expressing and sharing feelings for someone is beyond value.”

Many a times, this is exactly how I felt listening to Taehyung singing. Especially during shut down, I had suppressed my emotions deep within myself so that I can remain functional for my work and family. And when Blue & Grey was released, I made time to listen to Taehyung’s entire discography again and all my suppressed feelings broke out of me and I bawled my eyes out.

Layover was no different. The moment I heard Love Me Again, I had tears streaming down my eyes. This is the effect Taehyung has on me. And it’s a gift we have so many songs now with Tae’s voice from start to end.
