There needs to be a reg allowing certain individuals to wear combat shirts.
You know he says he did everything and “killed shit” during his tour. Wasn’t any combat arms MOS but cleared routes, did presence patrols, kicked in doors, convoy security; his unit was assigned all that

E9 pay is E9 pay, a wreath ain’t worth it. The military machine is going to keep turning with or without you. Your family will more remember what kind of husband and father you were, not what kind of Soldier you were.
1st time select for BN CSM but meant another PCS for my family. Asked consideration for a BN at my CDS & was told no. Asked if they would honor my HSS that was in the IPPS-A tunnels & told no.
Requested removal CSL & dropped my retirement. Family over career, as it should be.
Last full day in the 82nd Airborne Division for now, how should I spend it?
- Jump out of a perfectly good airplane?
- Run Ardennes?
- Wear a crooked beret?

Soldiers want to “soldier” by being provided good training and perform their job in a real setting. Good Soldiers also want standards enforced and leaders to lead. Those things are some of the MANY things that drive morale. I think that was the basis of the original post.
Maybe talk to actual squad level SMs before making such claims.
Several factors drive morale & it happens to be the some of the areas the Army needs the help in. Aside from things like pay, quality food, & housing….leaders at the BDE & below level are what drive morale.
@Asst_to_the_RM “Post Beautification” while in red cycle years ago sure seemed like that much. But those NG soldiers on orders earning per diem and BAH to just pick up trash ain’t complaining.

They do, warfare changes. It’s unfair to judge what combat is throughout time because of the change. A GWOT members CIB is not nearly the same as a WWII or Vietnam vet buts it’s still combat. Fast forward to 2025, shooting down drones now counts as combat. That’s the way it is.
