The aerial photograph above, taken during the final stage of Golden Gate International Exposition construction, provides a unique perspective on the impressive scale of the undertaking, as well as the stagecraft and artifice inherent in creating fair attractions.

On May 20, I will have the unique honor of launching my book STRANDED IN THE SKY at Treasure Island Museum, which is part of the original Pan Am terminus in SF Bay. Planes departed that site in December 1941 to unknowingly become an indelible part of US history.
Wonderful day last week exploring and visioning @treasureislandsf parks with Fay Tsen and Bob Beck. Treasure Island open spaces will make #sfparks even more spectacular. @sfrecpark @ Treasure Island San Fransisco https://t.co/WOe2WfquUD
Take a stroll around Naval Station Treasure Island in the 1960s!
These photos, by Electronics School Student Danny Farrow, depict everyday life on the naval station in 1966.
They also are great documentation of the Pacific Basin Fountain which was built for the 1939 Golden Gate Int'l Expo, and remains in storage on TI.
