⚕️ INDICATIONS.
ACE Inhibitors are commonly used for:
- Hypertension
- Heart failure
- Reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients at high cardiovascular risk
They can also be used in certain kidney conditions.
⚙️ MECHANISM OF ACTION.
ACE Inhibitors block the action of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE), which:
- Dilates blood vessels, reducing blood pressure
- Decreases the workload on the heart
- Can reduce the progression of heart failure
⚠️ SIDE EFFECTS.
👉 Dry cough (a common side effect)
👉 Elevated blood potassium levels (hyperkalemia)
👉 Low blood pressure
👉 Kidney dysfunction, especially in patients with pre-existing kidney disease
👉 Changes in taste sensation
👉 Angioedema (rare but serious swelling of deeper layers of the skin)
ACE Inhibitors should be avoided during pregnancy.

➖ Caution in patients with a history of angioedema or kidney problems.
