Defra told me “We are confident that our border posts have the sufficient capacity needed to handle the volume of checks required, while our inspectors have undertaken extensive training to ensure goods are treated safely and with care.”
For @BBCFarmingToday yesterday, I visited Provender Nurseries, who have spent years and hundreds of thousands of pounds on creating their own control point - because of concerns about the new post-Brexit system of biosecurity checks.

Once they’ve got their own facility up and running (which government inspectors will visit to carry out checks) they’re considering charging other businesses to use their control point.
Supposing Jimmy Anderson's run-up is about 19 yards, and he's bowled 40,002 deliveries in Tests...
Well that's 760,038 yards, or 430 miles.
Which is, by chance, the distance on foot to walk from the Utilita Bowl to Chester-le-Street via every Test venue in England.
It was great to get down to @HughLoweFarms for a look at this project, putting lightweight solar panels on polytunnels.
Finding answers to the land use trade off between renewables and farming is more important than ever. I look forward to seeing the final results of the trial.
What struck me was the level of uncertainty -- even from an independent facility which the government will use to carry out checks. They don't know how busy things are going to get, and lorry drivers can already expect to wait for as long as 24 hours.
I went for a look at the government's border facility at Sevington, near Dover, for this morning's @BBCFarmingToday on Radio 4 -- to find out what the government's new biosecurity checks for certain imports will mean.

In case you missed it, this fantastic and informative programme is now on BBC Sounds.
I recorded @jaegawise at RumFest for @nina_pullman -- one of the most fun days of work (if you can call it that) I have ever done.
If you like rum -- and/or history -- go and listen!
In case you missed it, I spoke to Calixta Killander from Flourish Produce for @BBCFarmingToday last week - we talked quality root veg, regenerative agriculture, and delivering to some of London’s best restaurants within 12 hours of picking!

Hard to know who to support in #ENG vs #JPN. Not really obviously it’s England, but Japan’s rise is so great I can’t say I’ll mind if they win.
For Sporting Witness I spoke to Michael Leitch @g_leitch, captain for their seismic win against SA in 2015.

You can hear everything these ladies had to say about the City of London’s new conservation grazing project on @BBCFarmingToday tomorrow morning at 0545 or on BBC Sounds anytime after. Thank you to @CityCorpHeath and @HandHSocHeath, who also took the time to chat!
