The owner of the New York Yankees, the most valuable franchise in MLB, is is full support of a salary cap
This should raise far more questions regarding the owner's driving purpose for implementing a cap (It has never been about competitive balance)
Hal Steinbrenner is asked if he'd be in favor of a salary cap in MLB:
"I helped craft the proposals that we have given at the bargaining table, and I support those proposals in their entirety. That should answer your question."
@MoonshotVientos He likely limited to 2B, but he should be average-to-above average in that role. The data I saw on him, albeit quite older, was positive in regards to his glove
@MoonshotVientos I was excited to see the Mets land him at the deadline. In terms of upside, Donovan seems like a reasonable comp, especially given the higher GB%. A 2B Sal Frelick feels apt, with Bryson Stott as a higher-end outcome

A lot to unpack here!
Émilien Pitre is my favourite name. Grades out as a solid defender at 2B and is flashing plus contact skills and swing decisions. Power is below average (103.4 mph EV90, 42.5 HardHit%) and hits a lot of ground ball. I had him as a potential Rays breakout entering the year and he has posted a 139 wRC+
Aidan Smith was acquired from the Mariners in the Randy Arozarena. Since, he has struggled in the lower minors and currently holds a 68 wRC+ this season. Raw power is above average and he is a strong runner, but the hit tool is poor
Gary Gill Hill has an 80 grade name and plus command. He averages 94 mph on his fastball and throws 6 pitches. Great Strike%, but limited swing-and-miss upside
The Pittsburgh Pirates have invested heavily in their front office in recent years and would undoubtedly benefit from a system that encourages spending.
If Nutting isn’t willing to pay Skenes in ARBITRATION now, a cap-floor won’t change his willingness to retain homegrown talent
Paul Skenes salary will be out of the Pirates comfort zone after next season and he will likely be playing somewhere else in 2028, per @JPerrotto
