Unrelated, but I remember when a friend of mine moved to the UK in 2022. We weren’t sure how this would affect our friendship.

On my part, I started to feel like she had made new friends there and no longer needed me. On her part, she felt I was moving on with other friends in Nigeria.

For months, we didn’t check in on each other the way we used to. But one day, we finally got on a call and had a heart to heart conversation. We cleared the air, cried throughout the call, and spoke honestly about how we both felt and how much we missed each other. Everything changed after that.

We began talking weekly, sometimes even more than once a week, working around our schedule and time at work. One thing I’m truly grateful for is that we had that conversation and stopped assuming.

Some friendships are too important to lose. Put in the work. Have the hard conversations. Make it work.
