Thank you @PtboMusicfestfor for inviting me to your AGM — the festival receives support from @CityPtbo_ and is the longest-running free music festival in Canada.
Great to meet everyone working tirelessly to make this event a success + to hear about the huge economic impact .
Yes, the Tracy Chapman / Luke Combs performance mattered because it was a connection across supposed divides, but it also mattered because Combs embodied unbridled joy, admiration, and respect for Chapman, something we see FAR too rarely when these sorts of bridges are celebrated.
Let me see if I understand this: the Academy nominated "Barbie" for Best Picture (eight nominations total) -- a film about women being sidelined and rendered invisible in patriarchal structures -- but not the woman who directed the film.
Okay then.
A lot of Swifties tuned into New Heights after that first game but the fact is they stayed. And they stayed because of Jason and Travis. Because of how respectfully they treated their new fan base, how welcoming they made that space and we love them for it.
in the wise words of taylor swift, “a man is allowed to react, a woman can only overreact.”
they cut the camera to her while she was still in shock & she took a sip of her drink. that is not even a reaction. this whole situation has blown out of proportion throughout the media. you’d think things would’ve gotten better for women in the past five years since she said this, but that’s not the case. this has made one thing abundantly clear, women are not allowed to react when they are blatantly disrespected. even if they don’t react, they’re still overreacting, since there is this perpetuating stereotype that women are “dramatic & emotional.”
she’s just sitting there trying to enjoy her night that she was attending because of HER accomplishments & the records she broke with her movie about her life-changing, record-smashing tour. yet, she was only mentioned once, only ten minutes in, to be devalued to her relationship & to poke fun at the ways the media has been tormenting her for years. you can not tell me that is funny. she’s been through hell throughout her career, she’s heard these jokes a million times—she’s over it.
she shouldn’t have to laugh at a joke that offended her to appease anyone. personally, i’m extremely proud of her for not feeling it was necessary to be a people pleaser & laugh, which is what she typically would’ve done int the past. that shows growth, that shows that she finally recognizes her worth. she finally realized that she doesn’t have to put up being painfully disrespected. she’s allowed to think a rude joke isn’t funny, it just made her uncomfortable. if she looks uncomfortable, it means he crossed the line, regardless of if you think it was funny or not.
it’s evident that this was an under reaction. she kept her composure & responded to the situation perfectly. however, even though she responded perfectly, she’s still getting tremendous amounts of hate for this. this makes it abundantly clear that men in this society will always have it out for women who are successful—especially when that success was created all on their own, since women are not allowed to be successful in their eyes. that is blatant misogyny, just like the joke they think she is a horrible person for not laughing at. of course they think the joke was funny, they’re a bunch of misogynists themselves.
When the sign and the sky blend together in this wonderful place... you know it is going to be a lovely day. A wonderful send-off @StJosephDouro into the Christmas holiday just days ago. May your days be merry and bright! Remember the reason for the season!
In 2005, a nursing home in the US got a six-month-old kitten named Oscar as a therapy cat. The staff soon noticed something unusual about him.
Oscar often liked to be by himself, but sometimes he would go and lie next to one of the residents. Strangely, the resident he chose would often pass away within a few hours.
At first, the workers didn't think it was important, but after it happened 20 times, they started to think Oscar knew when someone was going to die. So, they began to call the resident's family if they saw Oscar with them.
Some people think Oscar could sense certain smells from dying cells, and that's why he went to comfort residents who were alone.
There was even a time when the staff thought one resident was going to die, but Oscar stayed with a different, healthier-looking person, who then died first.
Oscar lived until 2022 and was right about more than 100 deaths during his life.
for all us street kids, for all us wildlings, when sinead got huge, it felt like one of us made it. It was incredible. im not trying to compare myself or anyone else to sinead, she is one of a kind, but thats what it felt like to me. like she was one of us. she was like billie holiday to me. All her pain, all her beauty, those incredible songs. she deserves sainthood.
This Jonah Hill shit is a wake up call for men to get this right:
We need to commit to facing and dealing with our own shit, and develop a healthy relationship with OURSELVES, BEFORE we can commit to a relationship with someone ELSE. Ya dig?
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appears to be a secret Swiftie, after tweeting an invitation to superstar Taylor Swift asking her to bring her Eras tour to Canada 👀
Imagine you're a gay NHLer. You've watched fans threaten Kadri. You've watched Torts preemptively bully Black players. You've watched players 'opt out' of Pride nights, and you've watched the league stand by and let it all happen. How could you possibly feel safe coming out?
