@cbgenealogy It especially aggravates me when a significant portion of my research is in parts of the world where taking the husband’s name was just not a thing, but Anglophones start inserting their naming customs wherever they please 🙄
@alliethinks He's not the best known, but he appears to be decently progressive, but more importantly effective! The amount of accomplishments his government has achieved in the past year alone is truly impressive.
@My_Family_and_ Everyone on maternal line had asthma, as did I when younger—turns out there are some studies that suggest it is more likely to run on the maternal side of the family.
Aside from that, half the women on that side of the family had arteriosclerosis
I really like this photo of my great great grandfather Horse Chief Eagle who was the last hereditary chief of the Ponca Nation wearing all the trappings of his office. Love the richness of all Native American cultures like this!
“As a community, we cannot stand by while our neighbors face the devastating consequences of a broken housing market. We need bold, coordinated action across every level of government, and our respective comprehensive plans offer us a roadmap to get there” @CMGirmayZahilay
Yes!💯
@phil_lol_ogist I used to know a lot of people (in North Carolina) who primarily used the term “soft drink,” as equivalent to coke rather than the normal usage, which I still catch myself saying from time to time
@alliethinks I’ve definitely seen parentheses used before, as in my great-grandfather Henry Eldridge (Eldridge) Gentry, & I know some people who quotation marks for that purpose too. A bit repetitive perhaps, but it does the trick since I don’t know of any standard way that’s better
@DannyBate4 I was going to ask if you were at the Pražské jaro, but that wrapped up a couple weeks ago, didn’t it? Regardless, sounds like an ideal way to spend a morning
@ShamrockGen My dad's childhood best friend (in Skokie, IL) was the son of one of the photographers who accompanied the liberators & captured some of the first images of the camp during its liberation- remarkable moment to have been involved in, & we can be very grateful for them all
@AllysGenealogy@danielmloftus It might just be because I’ve never found much of a “community” on FS, but unless the edit is quite recent I rarely inform them beforehand, & if it is recent, then a week at most
#genchat When we encounter an ancestor with little more than BMD records, we can find those stories, provide those contexts, through architecture, tools & industrial practices, music & art.
