#CurriculumForWales four courses that #Schools are using as a package of support in their understanding of #CfW the design and vision of that curriculum, pedagogy that reflects #CfW and the environment and #Culture of that vision https://t.co/VWfVW5IY2s
#InquiryBasedLearning is as much about process as it is about content. A model of inquiry provides a structure to support 'sense making' and should be viewed as recursive rather than linear.
Content is conceptually driven. The concepts are timeless, universal and increasingly abstract. They help us to understand objects, situations and ideas. The concepts are meaningful and transferable. #IBL
Units of inquiry are generally driven by generative questions, posed by either the teacher and/or pupil, and conveyed as a statement or a question. They are captured as a Central Idea. #IBL
Planning is emergent. While the teacher is cognisant of key elements and concepts to be included, the detail unfolds rather than being pre-determined and fully scoped out. #IBL
Aspects of the learning experiences/assessments are co-constructed with learners. There is a focus on understanding, learning to do and learning to be. #IBL
Contexts are relevant for the problems of tomorrow in the classrooms of today. #Inquiry leads to further action. It has an impact on the learner's future actions, thinking and attitudes.
Encouraging connections#IBL helps learners to make #connections in their learning to external concepts, providing time to discover and make meaning for themselves.
Free from traditionally rigid knowledge and fact-based learning, #IBL allows for teaching to encompass the child's interests, for increased motivation and engagement in the #learning process.
Ideas are organised in a conceptual way to reduce cognitive load enabling the βbig pictureβ to emerge. Learning becomes #transferable to apply to new and unknown concepts.
With #IBL, content is covered in more depth to understand concepts and to make generalisations to the new and unknown. Allowing knowledge to transfer between topics, rather than the ability to recall rigid fact based learning.
