Character Art Gallery:
After setting up a linktree with the places where my work can be found, I decided to use the pinned post on my profile to serve as a place where I can keep posting my characters' art, starting off with Lillian, my stories' de facto poster gal. By Kolstill.
@mario_anchor@Iberian_America You're going to have to kill every actual Mexican before trying to put a damn fake in power and then he'll rule nothing. Nationalism isn't bound to the chairo thing, you can put aside idiotic party ideologies but still not want LARPing foreigners. Pochos belong in the US not here
@HJ_Mendoza07@RCCoulombe Up until recently, they themselves used such a system to much greater effect but welp, now they ended up subjugated to a much smaller nation with an uncanny amount of influence and power. I'm still not too willing to trust anyone with the absolute unchanging power of a monarchy.
@HJ_Mendoza07@RCCoulombe Iturbide's monarchy? Kinda agree but even if there is a decent man in power eventually the descendants grow arrogant, incompetent and greedy. Maximilian? Much harder to break free from France's strings and wasn't even born here. The part that would suck is the forced catholicism.
@HJ_Mendoza07@RCCoulombe I'm not even disagreeing, the US is the single biggest enemy and threat that Mexico has and it keeps us down at every turn. However you imply that being ruled by other foreigners (Europeans) and under a monarchy of all things would somehow be better, which I kinda doubt.
@HJ_Mendoza07@RCCoulombe This is an open secret but people didn't really vote Sheinbaum if that's what you're talking about. People voted the party, MORENA and it just sucked that she was the chosen successor (look up "dedazo" if you haven't). A lot of people are displeased with her foreign background.
@HJ_Mendoza07@RCCoulombe I get that but there was no way anyone in Mexico would've been okay with being ruled by foreigners once more. Juárez was no better in spite of being native. If it somehow persisted to this day it'd be utterly bizarre to have a LatAm country ruled by a European monarchy still.
@ra_caelum1776@RCCoulombe There's a few like his tomb, a building and one or more statues, yes. History as taught by the SEP (Secretariat of Public Education) doesn't remember him fondly though and largely minimize his role in getting us independence when he did the heavy lifting.
@ra_caelum1776@RCCoulombe If you meant Iturbide I agree that they absolutely did him dirty and gave him an undignified death, falsely labeled as a traitor himself when much worse like Santa Anna largely got off scott-free.
@ra_caelum1776@RCCoulombe At a very particular level I strongly oppose that notion on the basis that the Mayans, whose blood I carry, fiercely opposed conquest and subjugation for more than 2 centuries. I'm not saying Maximilian was that bad but there was no way that people would have liked him as ruler.
@HJ_Mendoza07@RCCoulombe Who the hell said that politicians are beloved to me? LMAO. I simply stated the facts about this one. Nearly all Mexican politicians are greedy traitors and I'm against that but that doesn't mean I'm gonna support foreigners that want to plunder my land and genocide my people.
@ra_caelum1776@RCCoulombe You really expect a people that fought and bled to free themselves from an European yoke to accept it all over again without a fight? At the very least Iturbide was born here and believed in freedom and equality as far as documented history can tell.
