Gr 2 students are learning about how artists aspire to create moods or send messages to their viewers. They are exploring this through the lens of street art. So great to see their creations pop up around the school.
Students take Action! A group of 3 students decided we need to recognize the cultures of our community by having monthly theme meals. So far we have had German, Chinese, Japanese days. Thanks also to the Sodexo manager for working with our students to create meals. #pyp#aisgz
It's the 100th Day of School today. Students showed spirit in many ways, with one student creating an interactive sign - how do you say 100 in your language? One student brought in a meter stick & one printed 100 pictures of himself! I love our students' creativity! @aisg#aisgz
It's the 100th Day of School today. Many students showed spirit for this day, but family made it a group project. Mom counted the weeks while the daughters drew decorations. #aisgz@aisgz
It's the 100th Day of School today. Amazing how quickly some students aged overnight - I was sure to tell these 100year olds to take it easy on the playground! #aisgz@aisgz
Kinder students learned how to express themselves and learn about systems at the same time - all while 'playing' and creating a restaurant. The joy was palpable, as was the learning. #aisgz@aisgz#playbasedlearning#pyp
What do blizzards, sinkholes, tornadoes & earthquakes have in common? The curiosity of students. What do dioramas, Powerpoints, sculptures & posters have in common? The way third graders are choosing to represent their learning about natural disasters. #aisgz@aisgz
Last week I wondered where Panda class's exploration of ramps & elevated tracks would go. Today I learned it has evolved into a race track, complete with flags for stop, go, be careful, & you are the winner! They are certainly learning a lot about the world while playing #aisgz
Kindergarten students engaged in the thinking routine See-Think-Wonder while outside. Wonderings ranged from how big trees grow from seeds to why there is an unusual angle in the school building. I wonder where their learning journey will go?! @aisgz
As grade 1 students embark on a literacy unit, they read from a wide variety of persuasive texts and started to generate genre characteristics. They also were pre-assessed while writing persuasive pieces. The Ss are excited to embark on this learning journey! @aisgz
It started with Ss riding tricycles down a ramp & evolved into PK exploring ramps & elevated train tracks. The Inquiry includes creating a way to stop balls from rolling away & seeing if various surfaces affect rolling! Where will this learning go next? #aisgz#playbasedlearning
Today preschool students played and learned. They found brown leaves, counted them, used the calendar if they didn't know how to write the number, talked about O2 and CO2 & the importance of trees. Next week: Leaf printing! Integration at its best. #aisgz
As we still have displaced teachers, I was able to see how effectively asynchronous videos were used by teachers today. The videos were stopped in key places to lead discussions and set up learning. The videos were well done and engaging. Learning happens in so many ways! #aisgz
In their Powerful Stories UOI, grade 1 Ss learned about storytelling & how to engage an audience. They chose random character, setting, and problem cards. Then as a small group they created a story. When they were happy with it, they wrote it down and presented it. #aisgz#pyp
Assessment and play go hand in hand in a PK classroom. Here teachers use a leaf hunt to see who knows colors and numbers; who can stay on task for long periods of time while playing (look at those focused expressions!) and see how much a student can count. #aisgz
Phonics in an inquiry, balanced literacy classroom? You bet! Here Ss play a game coming up with a word that starts with the end sound of the previous word (& learning what an egret is) plus learning ways to spell long u & then going on a classroom hunt for those words. #asigz
I love it when students are innovative with cardboard. One group created a lucky draw game, complete with fake money while another student created his own Game Boy! @AISGZ
