There’s something wonderfully pure about A1 Slave Pits of the Undercity.
The premise is not complicated.
Bad people are raiding towns, burning villages, kidnapping families, chaining innocent people in pits, and selling them into slavery.
Your job?
Go in there and wreck the entire operation.
That’s it.
No tortured moral ambiguity. No “maybe the slavers have a point.” No attempt to make evil fashionable.
The adventure shows you the chains, the cages, the whips, the branding irons and the terrified captives because those things tell you exactly who the villains are.
And then it hands you a sword.
That’s old school D&D at its most elemental…
There is evil in the world.
You found it.
Now do something about it.
A1 Slave Pits of the Undercity, David Cook, 1980.
Still nasty. Still heroic. Still fun as hell.
THE COST OF THE ARENA
There is something obscene about a country asking a man to walk into hell, then recoiling because he comes home smelling like smoke. This is all tied to our recent discussions about “merit”.
We take young Americans, hand them rifles, send them across oceans, and ask them to become intimate with things most lawmakers, journalists, and professional moralists will spend their entire lives safely avoiding. Then years later, some of those veterans are called to serve for something important and suddenly the people in the balcony become forensic experts on every ugly year of their lives.
Maybe they drank too much after the war. Perhaps their relationships were a wreck. They behaved badly and struggled. Look at him! Look how dirty he is!
No. Fucking. Shit. You sent him into the arena.
Accountability matters. Some things cannot be excused by war. But neither can redemption be erased because it complicates a confirmation hearing. If a warrior broke, fought his way back, made amends, rebuilt his life and became useful to his country again, that story should count for something more than another line of attack. But it doesn’t, unless you’re lined with gay race communism.
Instead, America increasingly wants warriors without scars. We want the violence performed somewhere far away, neatly packaged, then returned to us without residue. And we want men willing to enter the arena, but God help them if they bleed on the carpet afterward.
The ugliest part is watching people whose greatest professional danger is a hostile headline point down from the marble seats at the scarred man below and laugh at the mud on his face.
You may be physically cleaner than him because you were never in the dirt. But your soul is filthy.
And history will not remember your name.
It's because the boomers debased the value of the dollar with horrendous and pointless deficit spending growing government at the price of liberty and prosperity. I say we chop it all down to size with a severity not seen ever. Milea of Argentina proved horrendous sloth of government can be brought down to size. The next POTUS must do even more.
After careful consideration and reviewing the current eligibility guidelines,
I’m officially declaring myself a @WNBA prospect.
If simply declaring who you are is all that’s required, then I meet every single requirement necessary to compete in the WNBA.
My team and I have carefully examined the WNBA’s eligibility criteria and governing framework surrounding self-identification and inclusion. Based on the current guidelines, I can and am officially declaring my eligibility for the upcoming WNBA draft in April 2027.
I know my presence on the court will stir up strong opinions.
I am definitely not here to mock, make fun of, or disrespect any community or personal choices.
I’m simply asking that the current rules be applied equally to everyone — the rules that represent the very values many WNBA players and coaches have publicly advocated for.
My team and I are prepared to ensure these guidelines are applied equally, consistently, and without exception, and I look forward to the #WNBA honoring its stated principles.
See you at training camp.

Former NBA star Enes Kanter Freedom has declared himself a WNBA prospect, says he meets every requirement necessary.
The 6 ft 10 in, 250 pound player says he reviewed the WNBA eligibility criteria and has decided to declare himself eligible for the 2027 WNBA draft.
The announcement comes after some WNBA coaches and players have announced their support of men in women’s sports.
“My team and I have carefully examined the WNBA’s eligibility criteria and governing framework surrounding self-identification and inclusion,” he said.
“Based on the current guidelines, I can and am officially declaring my eligibility for the upcoming WNBA draft in April 2027.”
Congratulations!
White people created, play-tested, and sacrificed their time and money to bring a game concept, never imagined or created beforehand, to the public for their benefit, notwithstanding their color, creed, religion or ideology. In so doing we created an industry which, in concert with adjacent industries spawned by its advent, is worth billions of dollars today. That game was DnD and I was there at the beginning, spent hundreds of hours and many years of my time for free, while betting on that dream and endeavoring for its birth.
Those creators, Gygax, Arneson, myself, Blume and Ward were rewarded for that unselfish and stupendous feat by being called misogynists, racists, and cultural appropriators by the current owners of DnD. One of their employees actually wished that white people would disappear from the hobby.
I want to thank those fans, designers and historians who appreciate the sweeping change for good we accomplished. It means a lot to me and to my now voiceless partners in that dream who are no longer here to defend themselves from their ingrateful and vile detractors.
Funny thing. While at Athenscon 2017 my wife and I visited the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum for about 3 hours total. No plate mail, Viking ships or instances of any other cultural heritage other than Grecian.
I have read and researched Homer and his works in preparation for DnD supplement 4, Gods DemiGods and Heroes and the hard back Deities and DemiGods. This took me to study works held at major universities including the Art Institute of Chicago.
I will not be supporting Nolan and his postmodern assassination of ancient Greek history and literature.
@monsterhunter45@ShawnRyan762 Shawn Ryan has sold out for his brand. That’s more important now than what he started out doing. He has to keep feeding the clicks.
