The contrast between Pete & Kao and Toto & Kanit is one of my favorite examples of how love can grow with maturity.
Pete and Kao fell in love in college. They loved each other deeply, but they were still learning how to communicate. When Kao hid that he was still tutoring Non, it came from fear—he believed Pete would be upset and wouldn't listen. And when the truth came out, Pete let his hurt and anger take over before hearing Kao's side. They both made mistakes, and those mistakes came from insecurity and inexperience.
Toto and Kanit, on the other hand, are already adults with careers and responsibilities. When Kanit hid that he'd been accepted by a bigger airline, Toto was disappointed—not because Kanit wanted to leave, but because Kanit felt he couldn't tell him. Yet Toto never made the conversation about himself. He expressed his hurt honestly, then immediately reassured Kanit that he was proud of him and fully supported his dream.
That's the difference. Pete and Kao's conflict was driven by fear and miscommunication. Toto and Kanit's conflict was resolved through honesty, reassurance, and choosing to understand each other before letting hurt win.
Love doesn't mean you'll never be disappointed. It means creating a space where the other person feels safe enough to tell you the truth—even when it's difficult. Toto gave Kanit that space, and that's what made all the difference.
