The argument against teachers carrying firearms boils down to 2 things:
1) Teachers shouldn’t be trusted with guns
or…
2) I don’t want my kids to be around guns without my knowledge.
The answers are as follows:
1) Teachers spend as much time with your kids as you do. If they aren’t trustworthy, they shouldn’t have the job. But the Second Amendment is a fundamental right that shouldn’t disappear just because you took a government job.
If you trust teachers to spend 8+ hours a day with your kids but don’t trust them to carry a firearm, they shouldn’t be teachers in the first place.
(Important to note that teachers aren’t required to carry, they’re simply allowed to. With standards significantly higher than TN police.)
2) 52% of Tennesseans own guns (that we know of). The average gun owner has ~15 guns. Your kids (and you) are constantly surrounded by gun owners that are concealed carrying.
**again, these are just the guns we know about**
If you don’t trust your teachers to (optionally) carry, you shouldn’t trust them with your kids in the first place.
If you’re worried about not knowing who has a gun, you’re in for a rude surprise: it’s more likely than not that someone near you has a gun.
Anyone who shoots up a school is deranged. Do you want the deranged people to know that your child’s school is unprotected, or do you want them to worry that they’ll meet armed resistance?
Stats say that school security guards don’t prevent school shootings (https://t.co/OxQ19gcn71).
And exactly 0% of school security guards have stopped an active shooter situation.
Maybe you get a Nashville hero who runs in and yeets the shooter quickly.
Maybe you get Uvalde where they use hand sanitizer while kids are murdered.
At the end of the day, the people you allow to foster your kids 8 hours a day should be trustworthy enough to carry. Not only is it their natural right, but it equips the men and women raising your kids to protect them in an emergency.
Tell us why we’re wrong.
@TheTNHoller@RepTimBurchett Instead let's talk about her keeping people locked up past their sentence for cheap labor, or knowingly withholding evidence that could free a man on death row.
@bradybuzz This country was founded with weapons of war, we aren't giving them up. Yesterday proved you can have law enforcement on the scene and they still can't protect you. Be your own protection.
