@MollyMcKew Except for soldiers, who are all just temporarily based (and then rotated), there are actually very few ethnic Russians in South Ossetia.
In Abkhazia, they aren't even allowed (by law) to acquire any land.

@JAMnewsCaucasus This picture shows the former Synagogue of Tskhinval, which is defunct since 2008. A few locals have repaired bits of it to keep the historical monument.

One of the key figures of #SouthOssetia is Kosta Khetagurov, the national poet of the Ossetian People.
You will find his legacy all over South Ossetia, from Kosta Khetagurov sq. in Tskhinval to the small village of Khetagurovo.
