Below the link to my paper on welfare convergence in Brazil with Luciano Nakabashi (USP) and Denis Moreira (Insper) - Journal of Macroeconomics (June 2026).

Does GDP really show how a country's welfare is actually growing? Our new paper accepted at the Journal of Macroeconomics shows that average welfare in Brazil grew nearly twice as fast as income per capita. Great to collaborate with Luciano Nakabashi and Denis Moreira. Thank you!
@PossebomVitor Hey, Vitor! I really appreciated your comment—they motivated me to dig deeper. I think my next step will be analyzing the share of small and medium farms in relation to the total agricultural area. What do you think? Does this align with what you had in mind?
Today I was investigating the distribution of "small farms" (those below 4 módulos fiscais) in Brazil. Using the Cadastro Ambiental Rural (CAR), I found that there roughly 6.2 millions farms considered small properties, being most of it small than 1 modulo. See graph below.
@PossebomVitor Hi Vitor, apologies for the delay! The share of small and medium-sized properties is 93% and 5%. It seems to be bunching around 4 mód. fiscais, as shown in this graph. Unlike the last one, this graph counts the number of farms, providing a clearer view of the distribution.
Today I learned how much Ribeirão Preto (SP) has changed! Inspired by @MapBiomas' urban land use study, I downloaded the raw data and mapped my hometown. Left: urban area in 2023. Right: the same area back in 1985, when agriculture dominated the landscape!
I learned three things from this short post (link below): the “cruel arithmetic” of developing countries stopping emissions today, the "insurance problem" of adaptation, and the importance of growing. Nice and quick reading!
