Until yesterday, social media was celebrating the FIFA Club World Cup. Until yesterday, The Odyssey was trending without anyone questioning people’s priorities. Today, Jananayagan‘s release is suddenly being portrayed as proof that Tamil Nadu doesn’t care about students.

That’s a selective narrative.

The protests in Delhi are centred on NEET reforms and accountability over alleged examination irregularities. Tamil Nadu has consistently maintained its political position of seeking exemption from or abolition of NEET. These aren’t contradictory positions. (Reuters)

If the concern is genuinely about students, the conversation should focus on solutions, not on blaming a film release or those watching it.

And if leaders believe the issue demands street-level mobilisation, it’s fair to ask why those holding public office aren’t leading such protests themselves instead of limiting the response to statements or social media messaging.
