@boyd121 Empathy is truly lacking…it seems so unusual in young people, too. Developmentally, they are at a self-centered stage but not caring and completely lacking empathy? It’s worse now than when I got into education a couple decades ago.

Grateful for a wonderful team and admins who believe this sentiment. We all carry each other’s load when some of us just need a break or must take care of families. The idea of constant sacrifice will continue to drive educators away.

If a teacher needs to be out, our response should be “Take care of you.” The sub shortage shouldn’t keep educators from taking care of themselves. I’d rather a teacher be gone for a day than leave forever due to a lack of empathy.
