Statement from the Yankees:
“We pause today — along with millions of Yankees fans around the world — to recognize the passing of one of our own. John Sterling breathed life and excitement into Yankees games for 36 years while wearing his passion for baseball and the Yankees on his sleeve. He informed and entertained generations of fans with a theatrical and unapologetic style that was uniquely his own.
“John treasured his role as the voice of the New York Yankees, and his enthusiasm for the art of broadcasting perfectly complemented our city and our fans. The symmetry between John and his audience was both undeniable and magical, and his signature calls will resonate for as long as we put on pinstripes — especially after every Yankees win.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to the entire Sterling family, as well as his long list of loved ones and friends.”
“My gentle giant. My darling son. My buddy. My teammate. I believe in you with every part of me.”
Last year, Fernando Mendoza received a heartfelt letter from his first teammate — his mom. ❤️ https://t.co/aDKpXpJ4TO

We have a lot in common. Not that I am an elite athlete like him, but in that both of our moms have MS. I’d bet he thinks the same thing I do.. our moms are the strongest people alive and she is our hero. Congrats on #1. I know mom is proud of her boy @fernandomendoza

@funkyhockey11 There is a major issue in how we operate our hockey programs from youth all the way to juniors. The entire system needs to be stripped down and reworked. While already an expensive game, the cost has reached inexcusable heights. We need younger leaders, not fossils collecting $$
In case you weren't aware, the NYPD and FDNY play an annual charity hockey game against each other.
The cops got a gritty 3-2 win over the firefighters and what followed was a truly incredible, three-minute long bench clearing brawl.
Howie Rose was basically the soundtrack to my childhood. He was my idol and inspiration before I ever really recognized it. I try to bring a little bit of Howie to every broadcast I do bc he is the inspiration to why I have pursued this path. Thank you @HowieRose Congratulations
@LiamBryan17@JLazzy23 I’d go from my skating lessons inside then walk outside for my squirt practice and it would practically be negative inside the bubble
@STAAtalent Biggest event I called in 2025: the 51st annual FDNY vs NYPD Heroes Hockey Game. A 5-3 win for the FDNY and I was graciously given the opportunity to call a game in UBS Arena, home of my favorite team the Islanders. A day I will never forget
Nate Hanley legitimately scored one of the nicest goals you will EVER see in a hockey game against the BarDown team 🤯🏮
We played against @Unionmhockey with a 5-on-3 advantage for a full game 👀

Wanna send a big thank you to @BrandonTierney for taking some time to chat and for his kind message for my pops after the St. John’s win last night. Class act and a true pro. Best of luck in the next chapter. Got fans for life in the Quigley house
A big thank you to @stefen_rosner for jumping on the Rinks & Realities podcast this week on the @LISportsNetwork. Stefen talks how he got into hockey, his own personal journey playing the game and the steps he took to get to where he is today. https://t.co/l6KBC7vndw via @YouTube
“Marshall used to sleep with his Islanders’ bed sheets. I think it was Pottery Barn that did all the different teams. That’s what he slept with until they wore out. Just the idea — it’s always been a dream.”

Pretty cool to see my dad mentioned here. The Warren’s are truly an incredible family and nobody deserves this opportunity more than Marshall. So excited to watch him make his debut #isles
