65 days at Neumayer Station III in the Antarctic are coming to an end. It was an exciting and successful time for us. In addition to the work experience, we could gather many unique impressions of this remote continent. See you next time! #research#antarctica#goodbye
Video from the inside of a melt channel 📹. Small holes can be seen on the walls through which meltwater has drained into the firn. At a depth of 37 m, the water stopped draining and the channel filled with water. #IceShelf#Ice#IceDrilling
Overview of our camp. The tracks of the snowcat that transported the camp are still visible in the snow. The main wind direction is also recognizable from the snow structures behind the containers. #Antarctica#IceShelf#Campsite#Snowcat#Snowdrift
📷🔵 Our deepest borehole measuring 52 m, photographed from the surface after TRIPLE-IceCraft has finished drilling and returned to the surface. #IceDrilling#Antarctica#IceShelf
From the roof of Neumayer Station III our camp can be spotted at the horizon. In the foreground you can see some blue storage containers, a summer camp which is not part of Neumayer Station and some penguins living on the ice shelf. #Antarctica#IceShelf#Rooftop#Telephoto
Start of one of the TRIPLE-IceCraft drilling runs. After the start of the melting sequence, the probe drills down into the ice self-controlled. #Antarctica#IceDrilling#MeltingProbe#Timelapse
A little insight into our daily work routine. During the shifts in which we control the IceCraft while drilling, the Kabause serves as an office, bedroom, kitchen and dining room all in one. Pretty cozy 😊. #IceDrilling#0fficeLife#ShiftWork
The key to the TRIPLE-IceCraft's high melting speeds is the special geometry of the melting head at the tip of the probe. It has a double parabolic shape, which has been patented. #IceDrilling#Speed@RWTHInnovation@RWTH#gsi_gmbh#dlr
The TRIPLE-IceCraft team wishes everyone a Merry Christmas from Antarctica!🎄❄️ Can you spot us on the Christmas photo in front of @AWI_Media|s Neumayer Station III?

During transportation, the TRIPLE-IceCraft is stored in a drawer in our container. We unload it at the drilling site using a crane mounted on the container roof. This crane also serves as a launching ramp for the probe. #Antarctica#IceShelf#Camp#DrillingSite#IceDrilling
Departure from #NeumayerStation! Our drill camp is located approx. 19 km to the north. Once there, we can start drilling through the #IceShelf. In addition to our IceCraft container, the camp includes a sledge for additional equipment and a "Kabause" as accommodation.
First drilling successfully completed ✅🎉. To test the full TRIPLE-IceCraft system, we have drilled a first hole to a depth of 4.5 meters. That's a bit more than a full probe length. We will now move closer to the edge of the #EkströmIceShelf to melt to greater ice depths.
Ready for launch. The crane 🏗️ for deploying the TRIPLE-IceCraft is installed on the roof of our container. Now we are ready for the first test drilling 🕳️. #Antarctica#MeltingProbe#IceDrilling
We have completed our preparations in the #NeumayerStation and the TRIPLE-IceCraft is transported back to our container to get ready for the first test drilling.

Videocast extreme📹❄! We were live at the "34th Raumfahrtkolloquium" at #FHAachen. GSI GmbH held a talk on melting probes and their applications in icy environments. @_DirkHeinen_ did a great job not losing the cell phone🤳🏻in 92.5 km/h winds on the roof of the #NeumayerStation.
