You do realize that the government is double taxing or triple taxing our money. All the employees pay taxes already. When that money goes into the stock market to buy companies, the government takes taxes on those gains, too.
The government is a taxing machine. Virtually every transaction is taxed (buy, sell, even holding a property). I'm surprised we don't have a breathing tax. Probably coming to a Democratic state soon.
It's a big problem that not enough people are asking. The leaders of the left always say people don't pay their fair share, but they never articulate the amount. The left also never wants accountability over their performance based on the money they've already taken. Their only answer is it isn't enough.
I offered that perspective for you since you have a cynical view of religion. Are you willing to consider that you're wrong when time and again science has been wrong? Also, science may explain how something works, but it doesn't explain why.
And you are correct that if I've put my faith in God but there's another god, then I have a problem. That's why it is incumbent upon me to make the decision of where I'm going to put my faith. But ultimately, we all put our faith in something, even if it is the absence of a god.
I used to be very cynical myself. I used to have a lot of doubts and hesitations about many aspects of Christianity, but the more I've explored it, the more I've read the Bible, and most of those questions went away. I still have a few questions and I'm continuing to explore those.
As I said before, my desire is not to win a debate. It is to encourage you and others to consider where you are putting your faith and to at least be open to another possibility. Apply your same academic rigor to whatever you believe at the moment and see where it falls short. When I say "imagine" something, you may be critical of that idea, but science says "theorize" which isn't much different. Science will test to try and prove something, but somethings cannot be proven like what happens when we die. And despite science's best efforts we can't know with certainty the origin of the universe. That will always remain a theory.
What if you are wrong? And are you putting your faith in the concept that life is a random event while scientists figure out the details? One way or another you're putting your faith in something.
If I'm wrong, I'll have lived my life trying to follow a perfect God. When I die, I won't know any better because I'll be nothing.
If you're wrong (and as a scientist you should at least be open to the possibility that you are), what is your outcome?
If you're right, then you'll be the same as me - nothing.
If I'm right, I get to spend eternity in heaven with God.
And to be clear, I'm not trying to win a debate. I don't want you to find out too late that you are wrong.
Does science have an answer to how something was created from nothing? Is your working theory that we randomly were created, we live a few years, and then die, and eventually the earth dies? What if your theory is wrong?
Do you trust and put your faith in whatever the scientists tell you? How many times has science told us one thing only to be later proven wrong? Even Einstein was wrong about certain things. The more we learn about the world the more it points to an intelligent designer.
If God is real, what would that mean for you? Would you need to change if you believed there was a creator of the universe?
@DarrigoMelanie From what I'm seeing you're listening to the Democratic talking points. I don't believe you are correct. Also, are you against voter ID in general or just this bill? A very high percentage of Americans support voter ID.
The kingdom remembers the legend.
Titus remembers the blood.
The Legend of Titus is a story about an aging knight pulled back into violence after losing his son. He's forced to choose between vengeance and rebuilding a broken life.
For readers who are past their prime, but aren't done yet.

@FinFreedom414 I am pretty much Option B and it was the best decision. When the kids are gone at various times and I have that quiet, there are moments where it is depressing. Sure it's nice for a little bit, but my kids are the best thing.
That's a very well written post. The part that isn't fair is that the government is moving the goal post on people. You said this a different way because everything that a person acquires in their lifetime has already been taxed, but now there's a new, very significant tax. It isn't fair because the person lived their life under one set of rules and now the government suddenly changes those rules on assets you already have.
At what point, is it fair to say the government has a spending problem?
It fits into Christian theology, which happens to be what I believe, because the thief was repentant in his heart. He gave what little time he had left to Jesus. It's incredible and we're so fortunate that we have a God who loves us so much that this is all it takes.
It doesn't mean people should wait until the end to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. It just so happened that this was the moment for the thief.
@Lancegooden It isn't controversial to require an ID to vote. It's only an issue because the Democratic Party believes it benefits by not requiring IDs.
@CoryBooker You say it is rigged, but you're a politician. How did it become rigged? By you and your constituents passing laws to help your donors.
Here's an idea. Make it less complicated and eliminate the loopholes.
