I’m not saying wearables don’t serve a purpose, they do. They offer a lot of great personal insights into otherwise unobservable metrics (e.g. the beneficial impact of sleeping with an eye mask, how my body prefers earlier dinners), but it’s just not something that I need anymore

After over 1000 days I terminated my Whoop membership. My wrist feels naked.

- revolutionised my relationship with sleep, alcohol and recovery
- gamified fitness
- kept me accountable

These lessons have been incorporated into my life, but I no longer need to rely on tech for it

It got to the point where I was relying on whoop to tell me how I feel. Surely any “athlete” should be more in tune with their body than that.

Did worrying about my Whoop scores enrich my life? Or did a constant “tracker” on my actions suck the fun out of life? What leads to more total wellbeing - an anxiously-optimised lifestyle with high recovery scores or a more laid back and flexible approach? Food for thought.

Palermo: a bit of a dump but had some great qualities

1. The views: coastline and mountains🤌🏻

2. The people: our friend Jasmine was a delight (and Budston lives there)

3. The food - some great arancine (Italian spelling), pinsa and espresso

4. The fashion: well-dressed people

This is the average toilet in Palermo. They utilise the finest anti-shit technology.
Notice no toilet seat, no toilet paper
This means:
- No queues for the loo
- No cleaning fees
- No stink in the cafe

Was also hard to watch videos of Israeli fans: chanting with glee about there being no children left in Gaza. Absolutely sickening. No other way of seeing it. The lack of silence for València victims suggests that Israeli compassion can only extend to “our own people”.

Impatient, people err on the side of claiming “revolution” because

- good to side with “the little people”
- revolutions have done good in the past
- their political commitments align with the so-called revolution

A revolution is different to uprising - it leads to long-lasting structural transformations

Who decides if something is a revolution?

Revolution is post facto and etic: it is determined by the researcher and only discernible after the fact. Therefore, we can’t see at the time.

@kookiecowboy I didn’t say I believed it, I said it was “interesting”. But, I also don’t believe the narrative that 51% of Americans are racist, sexist and rapist-sympathisers. There is clearly more at play here.

What was so great?

- Coffee, pastries & food top quality
- Very bike friendly; hardly any traffic
- Saunas & ice baths
- Wide streets and few high rises: doesn’t have that claustrophobic city feel
- Smiley people: really is a happy city
- Beautiful river

Equally mortifying was the interactions I had with Trump supporters. Men were fist pumping me left right and centre. One South African man told me “that Camilla bitch should stay in the kitchen”. I think he meant Kamala, and he definitely wasn’t joking.

It is so entitled to think that just because something offends you, it is necessarily offensive. You don’t have the right to assault me for what I’m wearing. That is ironically rather anti-liberal is it not? You are an American in Europe and your feelings are not my priority.
