His music was a sanctuary during the darkest days of Apartheid, a masterclass in spiritual jazz, and a universal message of peace. From the defiant, hopeful chords of Mannenberg, which became an unofficial anthem of the anti-apartheid movement, to the quiet, beauty of his solo performances - his sound was unmistakable. It carried the warmth of Cape Town, the depth of the blues, and the avant-garde spirit of jazz. Condolences to his loved ones in this time of loss.
