2. The people promoting/funding Macklemore’s tour are equally free to drop him from their roster.

3. I challenge Macklemore and other celebrities to use their platforms and their freedom to call out the ongoing, 1400 yearlong enslavement of Africans across the Arab/islamic world. Don’t just say “Free Sudan!” be specific — like you were about Palestine.

The Iranian regime fired missiles at Jerusalem (what Muslims call al Quds) and the Temple Mount (what Muslims call al Aqsa Mosque). The Houthis (Iranian proxies) are firing missiles at Mecca.

One of the many unintended consequences of the Hamas massacre of Israelis on October 7 (and the video-recorded execution of Tanzanian students in Israel by Palestinians) has been the global African diasporic discussion of how Black people are treated by Arab Muslims, including the over 1,300-year Arab enslavement of Africans. In my over 30 years of advocating for persecuted Christians in places like Sudan, I've never seen this phenomenon.

Young and older Black influencers, pastors/ministers, high school and college students, pro-Israel/pro-Palestinian, Republican, Democrat...the conversation is happening seemingly everywhere. Even Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traoré (an African Muslim) recently commented on the historic Arab enslavement of Africans, how it's still happening today, and how "We must have the courage to call it out and fight it." We could be witnessing the beginning of an abolitionist movement that is nearly 14 centuries overdue.

This has been the approach of every President since 9/11, and why we have an American Muslim population in which nearly 50% openly admit having a favorable view of Hamas. The US never addressed the terrorists on our soil — and in our colleges and universities…

Israel is not apartheid, but the surrounding Arab region has millions of Black African slaves (including in Gaza), a practice passed down by Arab Muslims since the 7th century. (That’s nearly 1,400 years for remedial students like Zach).
