Welcome to the account of the #AppliedGeology section from @TUDelft_CT . Here we will share our #research and more relevant activities. Keep tunned to meet our fantastic group!
Check out this blog post by our colleague Andrea (@fromtheurgonian) for @CENL_SWNL
The post is meant for the general public to understand the basics and impact of her research on #heterogeneities in the #subsurface
The post is available in different languages ⬇️
🌎New Blog Post!
Have you ever wondered how do scientists study its composition and structure without actually going there?
In our latest blog post, Andrea Cuesta (@fromtheurgonian) takes us on a journey "photograph" the Earth's interior!
Check it out!

Today's #FieldworkFriday post is special. Today we explore what type of field locations we would have found in #Morocco through time.
On this image, we see the impact that the opening of the Atlantic Ocean had in the country, and how the #depositional environments changed.
Jasper Hupkes presented his work on natural #fracture networks in analogue outcrop at @UMaine. Researchers from the #SolidEarthSciences group attended the presentation, and afterwards there was a fruitful discussion. It was a great experience to connect with the people in Maine!
Andrea is part of our team and, this month, she is the spanish scientist on the spotlight of @CENL_SWNL .
They have prepared a short video, in Spanish, for non-scientific public about her #research on #subsurface#seismic imaging

Ana Loyola is a Postdoc working on numerical models for the screening of depleted gas fields to be used in Underground #Hydrogen Storage. She is passionate about numerical methods and their application to various problems in #geoenergies.

Jesse recently joined the group as a PhD candidate. He will be working on developing #upscaling techniques for multi-phase #flow and #geomechanics across different scales, in order to reduce #uncertainty due to #geological heterogeneity in #geoenergy applications
#FieldworkFriday with some Parmelan Pavement (France).
We use these models to analyse the #fracture patterns in carbonate rocks, and understand the type of networks that we can encounter in #subsurface. These networks are relevant in fluid flow modelling.

Today, at our #ScienceMeeting, Rémi (@rjgcharton) presented his work on LTT #geochronology
We won’t share many photos. If you want to know more, you are invited to his presentation in #MedGU next week 👨🏻🏫
We are travelling back on time for today's #FieldworkFriday post.
Have you ever wondered how Morocco looked in the #Triassic, #Jurassic and #Cretaceous. Now, it is possible thanks to these maps. Learn about the depositional environments that dominated the #landscape back then.
Ten days ago, some of our colleagues took part in the #ScienceWeekend at @tudelft 🏞️
One of our stands was full of #drone devices, that children could even fly themselves. Those ones dearing and mastering the flying technique went home with a little badge 🎖️
Paper alert 📣
Check the results from the thesis from Aulia Valencia.
The influence of syn‐depositional compaction on clastic sediment distribution in river‐dominated deltas: A modelling study - The Depositional Record - Wiley Online Library https://t.co/AMvD5nu9Uo
#openaccess
And we will show the #drones we use to #collect data during #fieldwork
Visitors will see the drones from our departments, a total of 7 birds, and some of the #photos from our #field campaigns. Kids will be able to fly their own drone and get a badge after completing training 🎖️
The #ScienceDay is approaching (3rd Nov) and our section will have a stand at @TUDelft_CT
Our goal: bringing the #geology to children, and parents, that will come. And that includes bringing #fieldwork to the room.
This is our #FieldworkFriday thread with all the activities🧵
We will have a #flume available:
Children will be able to play with water and #sediment input, #sealevel, and #slope to create different types of #fluvial systems and #deltas.
What is the impact of these parameters in the shape of the #channels and #overbanks?
📢We have a new opening 📢
Apply to this 3-year #postdoc position and join our team !
This is a great opportunity to broaden your experience in #CCS from a #multidisciplinar point of view.
#academia#vacancy
The #AppliedGeology#ScienceMeeting is back.
Today, Guofeng Song, one of our postdocs, presented his work on the #DigitalTwin of the #Geothermal reservoir underneath @tudelft.
He walked us through all the steps to create the Digital Twin and some of his findings.

Two 3D models from our section are publicly available:
3D model of two parasequences of a #clastic, #shallowmarine outcrop in the Western Interior Basin #WIB (Judith River Fm, #Cretaceous)
Here you have a taste of them ⛰️#Stratigraphy
