In April 2024, Nicolle Wallace was doom mongering about how she might not be on the air anymore if Trump won the election.
Yet there she is over two years later, blabbering out the same kind of lies and disinformation she always has.
Does this idiot think the Trump admin litigated that case just so he could let them illegally stay here โtemporarilyโ for another 20 years? They all need to go back. Maybe we can send Mullin with them.
@WalterHiggins73@chrismithunc Agreed but he's a rising junior, has been transferred over once already, so why not head somewhere smaller where he can play every day for his last two years? He wasn't going to play much. Best of luck to him.
Abraham Lincoln is the most mythologized president in American history and almost nothing about the legend survives contact with the actual record.
Start with the thing everyone "knows." The Emancipation Proclamation did not free a single slave it could actually reach. It freed slaves in Confederate territory where Lincoln had zero authority and deliberately exempted the slave states still loyal to the Union, plus the parts of the South already under Union control. It was a war measure, not a moral thunderbolt. Slavery in Kentucky and Maryland stayed perfectly legal the day after he signed it.
This is the same man who said in 1858, out loud, that he was "not in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races," and who spent years pushing to ship freed Black Americans out of the country entirely to colonies in Africa and Central America. That is not a smear. That is his own stated position.
Then there is what he did to the Constitution he supposedly saved. He unilaterally suspended habeas corpus, a power the Constitution places in Article One, the legislative branch, not the presidency. He had thousands of civilians arrested and held without trial. He shut down hundreds of newspapers for criticizing the war and had editors thrown in military prison. When the Chief Justice of the United States ruled his suspension illegal in Ex parte Merryman, Lincoln simply ignored a sitting Supreme Court justice. There are credible accounts he even signed off on an arrest warrant for that justice.
And the war itself, the one his entire halo is built on, was the bloodiest event in American history. Roughly 750,000 dead. He had a real path to compromise and at one point backed the original Thirteenth Amendment, the Corwin Amendment, which would have protected slavery permanently to keep the South in the Union. He was fine preserving slavery if it preserved the federation. The principle came later, once the bodies were already stacked.
Strip away the marble memorial and the top hat and the somber voice actors, and you have a president who suspended civil liberties at a scale no one before or since has matched, jailed dissenters and journalists, defied the Supreme Court, held openly white supremacist views, and presided over the deadliest war the country ever fought. We do not rank him on any of that. We rank him on a martyr's bullet and a century of monument building.
Greatest reputation laundering operation in American history.
@pubity None of her wasteful donations have made any meaningful impact on the world or created any lasting legacy. Just hubris and largesse. She should not be celebrated.
Christianity is the reason women are treated as equally valuable in our society instead of subjugated.
Christianity is the reason that slavery was ended in our society.
Christianity is the reason we allow other religions to exist in our society.
Christianity is the reason we have laws that declare the accused as innocent until proven guilty.
Christianity is the reason we care for the elderly, handicapped, and poor instead of disposing of them.
Christianity is the reason we sacrifice for the good of future generations.
So yah, teaching the Bible in public schools is probably a good idea.
