The saddest but most consistent Canadian trope is that we demand to be taken seriously as a country, and then immediately become outraged when it turns out you have to spend money on things to be taken seriously as a country.
The Canadian government is going in on AI to make way for cuts to the federal public service. My bet is 18 months from now someone is going to get served by "MechaHitler" at a Service Canada and the the whole thing is going to end up with resignations and a Royal Commission.
In honour of today’s royal visit from His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla, listen to the Royal Anthem played by the Dominion Carillonneur, Dr. Andrea McCrady.
I have to agree. Please stop signing these policy directives and pretending they are executive orders.
Money bills require parliamentary approval.
And it is the Crown's Representative (GG or LG) who signs Orders-in-Counil.
This presidentialization of our system of government needs to stop. Prime Ministers do not give or sign legislative "orders." Tax cuts come from Parliament. It is entirely possible, in theory, that this so-called order would be defeated in the House of Commons. Please stop.

Please note that if you use "prime minister elect" to refer to Mark Carney, a Canadian constitutional scholar will come to your home and smash your windows.

I think the sabre-rattling you see from some PC Premiers is a sign of this. These are people who know how to be centrist conservatives. They’ve enjoyed fantastic success doing so.
I think the PC part of the CPC is getting fed up at loss after loss while leaders whinge about straws and woke and gender ideology. It’s anathema to those who believe in a legitimate limit to the government’s role and authority.
