The max speed was 16mb on Token ring as it made the way around every device on the ring searching for the owner of the payload. #mfc #camshow #webcam #Schadenfreude #cybersubs https://t.co/G92O9UAdF9

Ethernet had the clear advantage of token ring from the get go. Affordable cards, multiple access at one time vs one token at a time. #mfc #camshow #webcam #Schadenfreude #cybersubs https://t.co/lUltstwMZA

IBM owned the license for Token Ring. Each nic network interface card cost $500, a good chunk went right to IBM no matter who made it. #mfc #camshow #webcam #Schadenfreude #cybersubs https://t.co/ydFoJtouc6

Parallel to the operating system and race for the faster processor we had networking companies trying to get the price down. #mfc #camshow #webcam #Schadenfreude #cybersubs https://t.co/EO7keNdmGd

OS2 was the first multithreaded program which spawned a whole new dynamic in computer design. #mfc #camshow #webcam #Schadenfreude #cybersubs https://t.co/jD6rwLr0B5

Before Windows there was OS2 which was the IBM version of a GUI or graphical user interface. #mfc #camshow #webcam #Schadenfreude #cybersubs https://t.co/PA9tCnWmyP

The certification industry. Yo engineer guy, you want to make more money come to our schools and get certified. #mfc #camshow #webcam #Schadenfreude #cybersubs https://t.co/UpP8gyP9RH

Servers soon replaced larger computer manufacturers like WANG. Mainframes would soon see competition as well. #mfc #camshow #webcam #Schadenfreude #cybersubs https://t.co/10EyZtbNNn

Token Ring was the clear superb technology with speeds upward of 16mb. #mfc #camshow #webcam #Schadenfreude #cybersubs https://t.co/1n7dp6pFSE

Other chip manufacturers wanted in the game. Intel soon had competition via AMD #mfc #camshow #webcam #Schadenfreude #cybersubs https://t.co/zvZGS28Y70

[T W Scott @TWScott823]

There were no real standards in the day regarding PC architecture. IF you used IBM it was something called microchannel. #mfc #camshow #webcam #Schadenfreude #cybersubs https://t.co/2YWfdRg8JX

[T W Scott @TWScott823]

Yes there were others like Arcnet and banyan but Token ring was king. IBM learned about licensing. #mfc #camshow #webcam #Schadenfreude #cybersubs https://t.co/YxUpF79RRD
