@JamesBryantWX Crazy how long it has taken for this to unfold. I can't remember in my lifetime a 7/8 month stretch of abnormally dry during the wettest months of the year. The next 7 to 8 months will likely be much wetter!
No reason to be scared with today's storm potential. We are seeing a beautiful convergence of air masses right over central Arkansas which is helping erode the severe potential for us. Yes we still have to be on guard but the longer this drizzle hangs around the better for us.
Say it ain't snow spotted along the Little Maumelle River at 2 Rivers park near the Peninsula along shade protected Walton Heights and cold water Temps! Still hanging on after an 80 degree day in Feb. #arwx
@weatherninja As long as we get snow, it will be much easier to deal with. Hopefully the storm track keeps the battle zone stuff to our East. Sure looks like SE will get hit again with something.
Took matters into my own hands along with the help from some neighbors upstream! Crazy how much water is underneath this stuff. Got a few running lanes now to get out possibly by tomorrow!
@JamesBryantWX This is uncharted territory James. We've never had a storm in my lifetime that had sleet/snow/sleet and lots of sleet on the 3rd layer. The only thing that will help melt this faster is lots of RAIN. Got any in the next 7 to 10 days?
@weatherninja This is one storm for the ages. Since sleet is measured as snow, the measurement of the magnitude to compare this storm to any other in my 50 years is impossible. Neighborhoods reminding me of Jan 1988 and it was probably much colder then as well.
Mini ice age is here and not leaving anytime soon. The Temps next 7 to 10 days along with the ridiculous amounts of sleet here in LR will not melt like it has in the past. Keep your thermostats 3 or 5 days lower than you normally do. Power grids will be tested. #arwx
@JamesBryantWX Revisiting early to mid 1980s cold! Just got done shoveling the 8 inches of shaved ice/snow. Could serve snow cones for weeks! Doubt we see >32 this week. Even if we do, won't be enough to melt this stuff.
Picked Chat GPT's brain. Help wx geeks! #arwx
If you want the closest possible candidate, the December 17, 1932 event had 6″ of snow in Little Rock and widespread heavy sleet/ice reported elsewhere in the state soon before or after the snow, but not a separate 3″ sleet layer.
Sleet mixing in already in WLR at 13 degrees! Keeping me awake as it bounces off my north facing window. I-40 E corridor between here and Brinkley in hvy snow ! Should be a fun drive. KLZK - Precipitation Depiction, 4:12 AM
@NWSLittleRock Temps starting to warm up around 5k? I just switched over to a mix of sleet with moderate snow in West Little Rock at 4 a.m. 14 degrees at the surface here!!
In the sweet spot! 15 degrees here and got a firehouse of hvy snow ongoing! Probably have 4 to 6 already. Wind creating drifts already! #arwx KLZK - Precipitation Depiction, 3:29 AM
@JamesBryantWX This current wave rolling in has me nervous. Hopefully atmosphere will cool as moisture increases. Just a fine mist with some sleet currently in my neck of the woods. Any idea what Temps are at 5k feet? Hopefully we get a read before midnight.
@JasonBHampton Colder air wins out for us and squashes Frz rain further south! I'm feeling better about us , keeping that NE wind cranking up there brother! Feels like a freezer already 😃
Strong NE winds have capped the warming here. This is key to getting deeper arctic air in over the region, bypassing the Ozarks. When this happens it rushes the deep, cold air MUCH faster. Once overrunning precip begins, game on! More snow for LR area?! We shall see! #arwx
