HRW and SRW trial results from Temple are now posted. This site received 11.2" of rainfall since April 1st and I have heard many reports of preharvest sprouting in that area.
Resistance to WSMV+ was on full display at our Olton Irrigated trial site. @KsWheatAlliance Tradition, @PlainsGold Gabriel, and @okgenetics Breakthrough were among those that stood out visually. Yield results to come soon.
Trials results for Grandview are now posted. Agripro Bob Dole was the highest yielding HRW at 74.6 bu/ac. @DynaGroSeed 9623 was the highest yielding SRW at 79.4 bu/ac.
Trial results for Hillsboro are now available. LCS Brazos was the highest yielding HRW at 65 bu/ac. For the third year in a row, AGS 3022 was the highest yielding SRW at this site at 70.6 bu/ac.
Trial results from McGregor are now available. Newly released @LimagrainWheat Brazos led hard wheat at 59.6 bu/ac and AgSouth Genetics 4043 led soft wheat at 54bu/ac. Overall, average yield was down 18% and 51%, respectively, compared to 2025.
Winter wheat results from Castroville are now posted. This is the lowest average yield and test weight for this site dating back to 2007. Insufficient vernalization, leaf rust, and Hessian fly were contributors to the low yields.
Despite a challenging year, there are a few bright spots. This picture is from an excellent looking trial near Newcastle. Wheat south of DFW to Waco also continues to look very good. Most of this area received 0.5"- 1" of rainfall overnight with more chances through the weekend.
Trial results for the 2026 College Station Forage Variety Trial are now posted on our website. A difficult year for wheat varieties between vernalization issues and Hessian fly damage.
Despite dry conditions, leaf rust continues to develop with major outbreaks reported throughout South Texas, southern Rolling Plains, and Blackland regions. This picture was taken today at the Uvalde Research Station. @TexasWheat
Harvest season is approaching quickly. Spring wheat in Brazoria county is starting to dry down while winter wheat heads are starting to show as far north as Hill County. Leaf Rust and Hessian fly reports continue to spread from College Station to Ellis County.
With consistently warm temperatures over the past week, rust continues to spread across the state. Leaf rust has now been reported in 11 counties and stripe rust in 4 counties. This photo is from today near McGregor, TX.
Results for our irrigated trial near Plainview are now posted. This is the 2nd highest trial average we have ever had in the state going back to 2005, missing the top mark by just 0.4 bu/ac (Dalhart 2019).
