In South Korea, women are often discriminated against in restaurants through portion sizes. A very common practice is that restaurants serve men first, distribute full portions to them, and then bring whatever is left(often noticeably smaller portions)to women. This isn’t an isolated incident or a joke. It’s common enough that there are actually shared lists online of restaurants known for giving women smaller portions simply because they are women. So when women change their names to male names on food delivery apps to get bigger portions, it’s not paranoia or overreacting. it’s a response to a pattern of everyday, normalized gender discrimination in food service.
