Two TRT members deployed to KZN have passed away in a car accident while en route to Pretoria. 

The SAPS says they were due to testify in cases there, when the single-vehicle accident occurred in Witbank, MP, on Tuesday evening. 

Both were sergeants, assisting a task team dealing with cross-border crimes in Manguzi. 

Their names have not yet been released.

UPDATE:
Concerns have been raised about the safety of Mazwi Kubheka by his family. Hours after his release, there has been no communication from SAPS despite assurances that Mazwi would receive protection.

The family adds that they informed the Gauteng SAPS Commissioner that upon Mazwi's discharge from the hospital, a police escort was not even provided and the family was followed by unknown vehicles. Promises were made by SAPS to provide security, but to date, nothing.

The family then informed the SAPS of their desire to move Mazwi to an undisclosed location out of desperation to ensure their son was safe.

However, according to the family, SAPS indicated that this would only be possible after a two-week period, as they needed to complete their investigative procedures, including obtaining statements and conducting identification parades.
