We clean our communities every month. So why are we still drowning in plastic waste?
We mobilise youth, clear drainage channels, collect bottles, take photos, and celebrate.
Then the next rain comes. The rubbish returns.
The cycle continues
To environmental orgs, local leaders, businesses, recyclers & development partners
What is the missing link between collecting plastic waste and building a system that stops it from returning to our streets?
At @TaasiYaJamii we believe community action must link to lasting impact
Plastic recovery & recycling
Green livelihoods & youth employment
Market access to turn waste into income
We have to ask the critical question
What happens to the plastic after the cameras leave?
A clean-up campaign must be the beginning of a solution not the entire solution.
We cannot place the entire burden on young people and volunteers while ignoring systemic gaps:
❌ Lack of reliable collection points
❌ Weak recycling infrastructure
❌ Unclear markets for recovered plastic
❌ No incentives for households to separate waste
Are we solving the waste problem or repeatedly cleaning up its symptoms?
Community clean-ups matter. They protect public spaces and raise awareness.
But clean-ups alone can’t stop a crisis driven by weak systems and products entering communities faster than they're recovered.
Today, Taasi Ya Jamii Social Development joined communities in marking National Cleaning Day.
Clean streets mean healthier communities, greater dignity and a better environment for everyone.
But the work shouldn’t stop today.
Real change happens when we work together. we’re advancing community health , WASH , economic empowerment and sustainable development across
We’re open to partnerships, volunteers, and collaborators who share our vision of stronger communities.
