Too many Shi'a have fallen into the misconception that the Imams of Ahl al-Bayt were nothing more than loving figures handing out flowers like a bunch of hippies. That is a complete distortion of who they were.

The Imams embodied mercy, compassion, and patience, just as their grandfather, the Messenger of Allah, did. But they were also uncompromising against falsehood, severe toward innovators, and outspoken against the people of deviation. They did not blur the lines between truth and error to make others comfortable.

Do not remake the Imams of Ahl al-Bayt to fit a modern narrative or the worldview that dominates today. Accept them as they were, not as contemporary sensitivities would prefer them to be.
