So he gave them a chance to show their learning. He said they could write a short answer for each missed question showing what they knew about the topic being assessed.
When we say we want the point of assessment to be to see what kids know, this is what we mean.

My daughter (in college) got a not great score on an exam. Turns out the class average was 60%. The professor looked at the exam and realized that the question wordings were unclear and did not truly assess what he intended, resulting in a much lower avg than anticipated.

@hendkywi @missmulrooney Measure 2/3 of a ft and 4/6 of a mile... not equivalent, so 2/3 does not = 4/6. This question would come after much teaching how 2/3 is part of 1 whole divided into 3 equal parts, counting 2 of the parts, the value of those parts is dependent on the size of the whole

@missmulrooney It depends on the size of the whole (1). For example 2/3 of a small pizza and 4/6 of a large pizza are not the same. The standard is that you can only compare fractions when the wholes are the same size.

@doriecp When my daughter was 6, she tested her theories about the tooth fairy by hiding the fact that she'd lost a tooth from her parents! Luckily this fact was discovered before bedtime so the T.F. could be notified!
